Me and my buddy are considering getting the game despite the not so great reviews. I have heard a mixed bag of things from players and I was just wondering if I could get a real honest opinion on the game?  Im most concerned about the gameplay and season mode.

I haven't put much time into it. I loved the demo, but I have several other recent purchases that're vying for my time. Plus, I'm on my third playthrough of Deadly Premonition, so I'm a little preoccupied. I've spent some time with the team editor, though, and it's pretty bad-ass. Some people are working on recreating all of the NFL teams, as well. To be honest, you'll probably get the most enjoyment out of Backbreaker if you're more of a casual football fan. Not that it doesn't appeal to hardcore football fans in some respects, but I tend to get the vibe that people are disappointed by how shallow the game is in a lot of respects. That just makes it more approachable for me.

I've been working on finals the last few weeks, but what I've played of it I have loved.

It definitely has some broken aspects but if you approach it as an arcade style rather than a sim you'll probably enjoy it more.  There are times when I really enjoy it and there are occasions that are extremely satisfying, but it does come with its annoying/frustrating moments as well.
