I recently finished Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and it was awesome. I've owned it for quite a while now and I have no idea why I've just now gotten around to beating it. I still have a ton I can go back and complete though too. But anyways It got me thinking about where the series may go from here. 
 
There's basically three options: 

1. Take the next game back to the roots of the series and make it a platformer
2. Continue with the Nuts & Bolts style and expand further on the user generated content stuff
3. Go in an entirely new direction (Banjo first-person shooter?  :P)

All I know is that it will be FULLY compatable with kinect.

But you're right in the choices they have: The thing they did at first, the thing they're doing now, something else. You covered all your bases.

Actually I just replayed banjo-kazooie and  banjo-tooie on the XBOX for achievements, and to tell you the truth I wouldn't mind seeing Rare take another crack at platforming, those two games are pretty fun. Sure they have their problems, kazooie is pretty formulaic and generic and tooie has a little too much backtracking, but overall they were enjoyable games. However, after N&B I feel like even if they did go back to platforming they need to still include user generated content in some way. Actually, It would be interesting to see a platformer take a different approach than LBG at user-generated content.

Didn't Nuts & Bolts tank?  I wonder if Rare would even consider doing another Banjo game at this point.

Maybe they should try another kart racing game in the vein of Diddy Kong Racing. Except keep it all nuts and boltsy with the customization. MS needs a kart racer since Sony and Nintendo have their own.

Rare's probably going to focus exclusively on Kinect, and not really do much with it's previous franchises to appeal to the "core" fans. Yeah...I think I stopped liking Rare when Microsoft bought them.

Hmmm, I played banjo nuts n bolts today for the first time in a year. Then I was just about to boot up 360 and play more banjo, then I see your topic...... O_o 

I would go ape shit if they would just make a bad ass 3-d platformer, like the old games. I think the genre has mostly been folded in to games like assassins creed and crackdown, but damn, more games like galaxy 2 would be great in my book.

Considering how they ruined it with Nuts & Bolts, I don't know. I hope they do something but after the deserved failure of the last game, I don't think it's likely to happen. For a long while at least.

Somehow I get the idea that Microsoft is kicking themselves for buying Rare because their games don't sell in the post Halo era of console games. Combine that with the fact that half their employees have left, and the whole thing's really a shame.

I love Banjo-Kazooie a lot, and here is what they should do: 
 
Make a huge, open world platformer, without a hub-world. The whole game is one world. There could be elements of nuts and bolts to build vehicles for travelling long distances, but the point of the game is the platforming. My vision is that with this format, there could be a main quest with an actual narrative aside from 'hurr durr collect 120 thingz', and there could also be side-quests. 
 
I mean, I would totally dig this in any platformer, but the Banjo series is one of my very favorites, so I would be in 7th Heaven if this happened.

I approve of this. The first Conker not the shitty remake.

I loved Nuts and Bolts and thought it still retained the series' platformer feel with it's use of vehicles. Still, the original is my favorite. I'd love to see another 3D platformer, but I'm also open to whatever crazy idea Rare comes up with, so long as it does the series justice. I wouldn't mind a Nuts & Bolts remake, but I think I'd prefer a more traditional platformer instead.

I kinda doubt that there will be another one. and if there is then it's not gonna come from Rare. They are now the Avatar Developer, until someone there snaps and kills everyone. Should be any day now, can't believe they held out that long.
