Polite, adventurous, and laid-back, Banjo is one of the Banjo-Kazooie series' main characters.
Originally introduced in the Rareware racing game, Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo burst onto the gaming scene with his feathered friend Kazooie in the Nintendo 64 platformer, Banjo-Kazooie.
Banjo, along with his sister Tooty and friend Kazooie, lives in the quiet land of Spiral Mountain on the Isle O' Hags island. Upon finding his sister, Tooty kidnapped by Gruntilda, it's up to Banjo and Kazooie to embark on a brand-new adventure.
In Banjo-Tooie, Banjo and Kazooie attempt to stop Gruntilda from zapping there home and draining it of all life, and to revive there good friends Bottles the mole and King Jingaling of JInjo Village.
In the Game Boy Advance game, Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Banjo adventures on his own to save his friend Kazooie and the future they created at the end of Banjo-Kazooie.
In Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, for the Xbox360, Banjo and Kazooie have to once again battle Gruntilda, but this time it is through a game world hosted be L.O.G. or the Lord of Games. This is a change for Banjo in that there is less platforming elements and a large building component to his new adventure.
Banjo is well-known to wear his trademark yellow shorts, sharktooth necklace, and blue backpack which holds Kazooie. However in Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts he was given the alternate costume of a suit (and kazooie a tie) that he wears after defeating Gruntilda. He is also adept at playing the banjo. Banjo's a generally laid-back and polite character, usually having to interrupt Kazooie's much more brash quips, however in Nuts and Bolts he seems to have grown a slightly more agressive side as while not quite as harsh as Kazooie will make fun of other characters and use a lot of sarcasm, although he usually immediatly feels sorry afterwards.
Banjo' was originally developed for a side project being developed by Rare for the SNES titled Project "dream" however once this idea was scrapped Banjo was the only character retained and was made into the star that we now know him as today.
