After downloading the Bastion trial edition I can get as far as the "Friends playing this game" message before I return to the dashboard.

Clearing the cache unfortunately didn't help. Re-downloading hasnt had any effect either.

strange, ive never experienced anything like this myself but a quick search of the internet lead me to a page where people where having a similar problem, apparently a call to xbox support helped with the issue. something to do with DRM

Move it to a USB drive, start it from there, then see what happens? I honestly don't know if that works, but it's worth a try if you really have to call Xbox support. Or maybe remove the hard drive then put it back in, start, see what happens, etc.

Last night I did try deleting the game, removing and replacing the hard drive and then reinstalling.

Got me as far as the menu before it crashed back to the desktop.

I'm going to try the USB trick tonight hopefully, the only problem being I dont actually have a USB big enough. (My portable hard-drive is at work)

Tried using a Nokia 1GB Micro USB card (formatted properly) and my 360 wont even see it.

If you have not already done so, try clearing your cache and then immediately rebooting your 360 before starting the game.
