I understand why their not reviewing it, but slightly dissapointed too, considering the only reviews of games I read are from this site. But yo, it's all cool, if that's the way it has to be.

Bastion is a story about a Kid, his hammer, and a world gone all kinds of wrong.
Hands-On: Bastion
Of course it doesn't matter to someone like you. But since there is a lot of speech and the narration is so important in this game maybe it should be further considered." @Trylks said:
" @Doctorchimp: That's not what I said. I see you cannot understand even written English, sorry for you. "The part you posted said that as you picked things up the narrator puts his own spin on the vocabulary. You then posted a cheeky FYI that not everyone could understand it, like that matters. "
It matters to giantbomb, if the narrator is going to be a big part of a game, the capability of adding subtitles or having optional subtitles may be an important feature to consider.
It matters to potential buyers that this game may have a high cost in time and money for the localization to other languages, and because of this it may even not be localized to other languages, and if it does even interfere with QA from microsoft it may not be released in some regions.
It matters to developers that may want to consider both previous things from their point of view.
From "everybody can understand it" to "nobody can understand it", at which point would you say it is important?
Could you explain what's "cheeky" in my comment?
Your first point-
Of course it'll have subtitles, It's a videogame. Slow your roll.
your second point-
It's important as long as the people who are making it want it to be that way.
your third point-
Cheeky as in, "hey put in new languages in there not everyone speaks English."
By the way when you talked about how maybe the developer might want to reconsider the whole narrator thing because there might be issues later on is exactly what I took issue with. If it's what they want to do, they can do it without worrying whether or not it's for everyone.
1. not all games have subtitles, oddworld: stranger's wrath doesn't, to start with, there are many games that don't.
2. 3. you skipped these.
4. Well, I think you are not getting even a bit of what industry and market are. And how money doesn't grow in trees. We will continue this discussion when you are 23.
5. Exactly, you are getting it wrong. I just wanted to remark that understanding the narrator may be hard for non-native English speakers, and that could be an issue. You know, if you cared about money, market share, and some other stuff, like in the adult world.
See you in a few years.
Stranger's Wrath came out in 2005.
I answered who it should matter to, not Giantbomb, not even the buyers. It only should matter the developers what do they want to do with their game. Which is those three points... Of course money is absolutely everything right? Sounds like someone doesn't really know what's important.
Think how your life would be earning 1$/h, or 1000$/h. In the differences is the relevance of money. Money is just a way to get time, and time in life, the time you are alive, and what you can do with it (quite determined by the amount of money you have) indeed is everything. Someone doesn't really know what's important, and of us both, I think it is not me.
" @Doctorchimp: in 2005, and the trend since then is to add text and remove sound in games, right? No, the trend since then is to have fully voiced games with subtitles optional.

While your difference between being the working poor and fairly wealthy are dead on...
When we're talking about releasing a little indie game, that's when you're gonna have to put your big boy thinking cap on. Do they continue to push for their vision of this heavily stylized Action RPG and push as much style as possible to really get people going? Or do they start cutting corners so you just get this RPG with less personality that people are less excited about but with equal access to everyone?
I'm getting tired of this. You need to stop and look at games as something that the creators can have control over. So what if it alienates other people? That's the game they want to make.

That's the game they want to make.Of course, I'm just remarking one of the consequences that may not be obvious for some people that may care about it. What's so annoying to you that I do so? Can't I (as a forum user) just say what I want to say? What if you consider me a "post creator"?
This looks sorta like an isometric Zelda, but obviously with more combat. I also get a Nathan Fillion narrating the opening to Firefly from this. Not just the voice, but the language as well. The skill aspect of the combat looks cool, though not so deep, such as, say Bayonette, as to be too time consuming or frustrating.
" Wait really? Greg kasavin has another job? Does he just have trouble dedicating himself to his work or something? Also Bastion looks super cool "Changing out jobs regularly is not that uncommon, and is one good way to advance your career. He wanted to try something new.
pretty classy that you dudes are deciding against a review... ive seen ign do features like this with wii games and the like and when the game comes out they vastly overrate it and get a thanks in the credits and such.... it always seemed insanely shaddy
The narration thing is pretty cool, but not really a big deal. The game just seems like a plane old isometric action RPG which is just an advanced beat em up mixed with some Diablo. This game seems solid, but there isnt anything I am getting excited for, nothing different about it that I can really hang my hat on. I guess it doesnt help that I kinda hate games like Diablo, but even so, just doesnt seem too special to me.
"we're opting to not review Bastion when it's released. I suspect that, by the time it's finished, we'll all be a little too close to it to render an untainted verdict, so it's best to just state that now, so everyone's clear"
That's fair, but at least an announcement that it's been reviewed by sites (don't have to list the scores) would be welcomed :D
"we're opting to not review Bastion when it's released"
its this kind of integrity I appreciate. The feature also sounds really cool, go Giantbomb!
" The narration kind of reminds me of a really awesome DM from a pen & paper game, which is very cool. The game also looks fantastic. "Ooh, that's a really interesting observation. I haven't really experienced much of that myself but I can see how a DM would comment similarly to that. Why it's interesting is that from reading the bio of Supergiant's employees a couple of them are heavily into D&D games and have been since childhood. That could very well be where they got their inspiration from.
I was hoping Deathspank would be good, but the combat was so damn boring. This looks like it could scratch my rpg itch.
I love the narration. The idea of it narrating what you're doing on the fly as the game goes along is really cool and the narrator's voice is great.
Gameplay looks fairly solid, though I hope there is enough enemy and weapon variety that keeps the fighting from feeling tedious.
I really like the look of the game. From the Kid, to the enemies, and the weapons shown in the video it looks really neat.
I'm really interested in how you guys are going to be covering the game. I don't think I've seen it done before and I think it will be great. I'll gladly trade a review for in depth coverage. This game looks awesome and I'm going to eagerly be watching for information on it.
Won't this narration get incredibly repetitive and obnoxious after a while?
"kid finds an alloy that will strengthen his hammer"
"kid finds an alloy that will strengthen his hammer"
"kid finds an alloy that will strengthen his hammer"
"kid finds an alloy that will strengthen his hammer"
SHUT UP ARRRHHHH!!!!
Also, what in gods name is up with the guitar music, grizzled old man narrator, and bright, colorful anime artwork. Those things don't seem to mesh well at all in the vid. It's like it's a bunch of "creative" stuff thrown together with absolutely no overarching design.
I'm really fucking pumped for this game, it looks like exactly the kind of game I've been wanting for quite awhile.
Also that was definitely a 360 controller, FYI.
i'm rather surprised how irritated some already are with the 'active narration'. i've never heard anything like it; the perspective, tone and style of the voice feel unique and different.
people have already mentioned the potential for the narration to wear very thin if the same comments were said over and over again in quick succession. i completely agree, and i'm sure the developers do too, which is why i'm confident such issues have been/are being addressed.
i am really enjoying the footage and coverage i have seen so far.
I had already decided that this game looks innovative enough for me to buy it but then Jeff goes saying that Greg Kasavin is going to work on it... I don't think I could be more hyped for this project.
I think the narration is a little too present in the game, it might get annoying after a while, always having to hear what you're doing.
Still, I'm pumped :)
