It was with muted anticipation that I started Bastion. Previews showed something like a cross between Diablo and Zelda with a vaguely JRPG style look. I thought it would be an interesting time waster, and I quickly downloaded the demo and started it skeptical of laying $15 for a product. “Proper story’s supposed to start at the beginning. I’ve been struggling with my thoughts of Bastion for a few days now and it has me perplexed. I kept weighing up all the good points but felt that in some way there was something fundamentally wrong with the game that I couldn’t see, that it lacked some kind of raw element that made it more than just good, but I couldn’t pin it down. I would recommend not reading this review until you've completed the game, since any spoilers would significantly worsen your experience of this game. So, Bastion, it's my Game of the Year 2011, for many reasons. If I had to classify Bastion in a genre, it would be an ARPG, but it is far more than that, it is a story-driven ARPG, with a wonderful art style, and a wonderful gimmick (it IS a gimmick), of a narrator who sounds like Frank Zappa, telling the story of the game's protagonist, the Ki...0 out of 0 found this review helpful.
