I'm Batman.
It's been kicked around a bit as a foreign release for Europe, Australia, and Asia, but Eidos and Warner Bros. have confirmed a North American release for an updated version of Rocksteady's hell-of-rad Batman game, Arkham Asylum.

Content-wise, this new "Game of the Year" release will toss four maps that were previously released as downloads onto the disc. It'll also include support for TriOviz 3D, which is a glasses-only display mode that doesn't require you to own some crazy fancy 3D TV. 3D glasses will be included with the package.

While Europe and Australasia will get this new release on March 26, those of us in North America will be left hanging until May 11. The GOTY version of the game is scheduled to be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Also, I believe this may have a fresh set of achievements, which could add something like two more sets to the achievement list. Considering there are already three discreet points-containing versions of the game, that leaves Batman-loving points fiends with a lot more points potential.

But only crazy people would play Batman to completion five times, right?

3D glasses? What? Really?

#4 Posted by PhilESkyline (772 posts) -

I don't think I could buy it again for a few more achievements.  No wait....okay yeah I can't do it.

3D glasses for real? Sounds pretty awesome. Might check it out. How is it going to work correctly though?

#6 Posted by Hamz (6846 posts) -

Sounds awesome, thanks for the news Jeff :)

i've yet to get Batman AA, so this sounds pretty good :)

Time to get my 1000/1000 on the 360.

#9 Posted by dbz1995 (4790 posts) -

Somebody already posted this, Jeff. I'm requesting a lock.

#10 Posted by Regal (434 posts) -

Wait what? Four maps? The only DLC that was available for Batman was one stealth challenge and an "endless" combat challenge, that sounds like two maps to me, or have I missed something?

#11 Posted by Bandit_Fox (142 posts) -

The 3D sounds... interesting. Not a selling point, but... interesting. I just don't know how the game would benefit from this addition. What would be popping off the screen? Batman's cape as he glides?

#12 Posted by RHCPfan24 (8609 posts) -

Sounds boring....what you say about 3D? STILL not interested.

@CornontheCobbe:
Probably worth waiting for reviews hopefully the 3d is ok
#14 Posted by CyleMoore (493 posts) -

I hate how everything now days is going to 3D.

Five times is too much. Three is enough!  For one year anyway.

Probably Joker maps from the PS3 version.

I want me some Bat-Glasses plz

#19 Posted by spiceninja (3055 posts) -

Wait, so if I already played this on 360 and play the GOTY edition also on 360 I'll get more points? I'm willing to do that.

#20 Posted by Kombat (2205 posts) -

Whatever, until they release this game in Real-D it's not even worth playing.

#21 Posted by MeatSim (10765 posts) -

Not really interested in 3D.

#22 Posted by Rodiard (432 posts) -

More BAA achievements? Don't tempt me Eidos...

#23 Posted by SilverArrows (95 posts) -

And how much is this version going to cost? Please tell me its $30 or $40, and not full price.

Considering its a GOTY Edition, its probably safe to say it will not be full price.
#25 Posted by SteamPunkJin (1286 posts) -

Have Batman show up twice on my completed game list? Hells yea!

Speaking of - what were the 'other' versions Jeff mentioned?

#26 Posted by SilverArrows (95 posts) -
@End_Boss:
I dont know. There are many GOTY editions that end up being full price. Thats the reason they have the GOTY edition, so the publishers can package the DLC, and get away with charging $60 for it. If I were to bet, I'd say this is going to start out at $60

Hell-of-rad? I will never understand Americans.
#28 Posted by JackSukeru (5903 posts) -

Haven't bought this game yet, so great!

But then again, I don't care about the 3D glasses and stuff. Gimme an artbook or a soundtrack CD or a metal casing any day though.

#29 Posted by JJOR64 (18908 posts) -

I haven't picked up the game so I might just wait till this version comes out to get the game.

Double S-rank FTW! Now on to a quadruple S-rank... *rubs hands together*

#31 Edited by bybeach (4725 posts) -

I could see this game working in 3-d. but I can`t see shelling out twice for it, though long down the road I very well may.

This game absolutely shined on PC.

Thanks jeff.
#32 Posted by Landon (4130 posts) -

Good game, but 4 maps and a few new achievements isn't enough for me to buy this.

#33 Edited by Bionicicide (1213 posts) -

Maybe if the X360 version would get the Joker challenge maps... but I don't want to support 3D. Seriously, Avatar was the flagship title for 3D and all I saw was a layered effect with blurry ashes; not worth it to see longer development cycles and CPU space being wasted to run 3D tech.

If you love 3D, just make sure your TV has the proper refresh rate and you don't wear prescription glasses (if you do, then forget about enjoying 3D).

I already have two copies of the game and i'm a really big batman fan. Maybe i'll have a third copy of the game, I like to see it in 3d.

#35 Posted by Oni (2094 posts) -

Well... I did complete it 1000/1000 on 360 and PC, if the GOTY version has a separate points tally... No I can't. Nuh-uh, can't justify the expense, or even the time I'd spend S-ranking it again. No way.

...maybe?

#36 Posted by Vigorousjammer (2480 posts) -

YESSSSS!!! good thing I was so busy playing other games around that time of year last year... now I can GET MAH BATMANS ON!!

#37 Posted by Willy105 (4688 posts) -

I like Batman and I like good games. Maybe I should get this.

#38 Posted by Andorski (5190 posts) -

There were four maps released as DLC?  I only remember the two maps from the Insane Night Map Pack.

#39 Posted by Ghosthead84 (143 posts) -

I'm Batman.

Or at least I like to play this game.  New trophy bonuses?  DLC I already have?  Pointless 3D gimmick?

SOLD!

I'm Adam West.

#41 Posted by SiN13 (234 posts) -
@Regal:  Insane Night which was 2 maps, Prey in The Darkness which was another 2 maps which I think was a PS3 exclusive but it can be downloaded on 360 if you make a European account. I'm not sure what the other stuff is but there was the PS3 Joker stuff and I believe there was a Gamestop pre-order map where you fight skeletons.
#42 Posted by Brazzle (212 posts) -

If you thought that Batman's cape couldn't get more intrusive and in the way imagine it in 3D.

PC (GFWL) and Japanese Xbox 360.

GOTY Edition... Great, but for someone like me who never bought the game back when it was fresh the only thing I am hoping for is a reduced price.

#45 Posted by psmgamer (112 posts) -

I just bought this on Amazon for $39.99 and now they announce the GOTY edition is coming to NA in May.

#46 Posted by Linkyshinks (9881 posts) -

The only thing that would tempt me to ditch my current copy is playing as Joker on 360.

#47 Posted by ReaperOfLiving (491 posts) -

Doesn't a game have to win GOTY to get a GOTY edition?  Obviously not in BAA's case.

#48 Posted by buzztone (48 posts) -

I could do without the 3D glasses stuff.  But this sounds like a deal for someone who hasn't played Arkham Asylum yet. :)

#49 Posted by Claude (16254 posts) -

I haven't played it yet, but I'll go the cheap mode as in a used copy.

It's won GOTY on a few websites, GameRevolution for example
