Why does Akrham City run so poorly on my pc?

#1 Posted by SoleVillain (40 posts) -

My specs:

i5 2500k at 4.5

nvidia gtx 670

8gb ram

The game runs horribly in dx 11 for me. lots of stuttering as I traverse the city. problems with/without AA, high/low settings dx9 seems to run fine.

1080p is the res i use, if that helps

what gives?

I haven't played since I it came out, but yeah DX11 was busted out of the box. Maybe they never fixed it, or you need to update the game. For the few hours I put into I, I just used DX9 and it ran perfectly.

#3 Posted by SoleVillain (40 posts) -

Does the game not auto update on steam?

#4 Posted by cyraxible (680 posts) -

If it's stuttering while streaming the city than perhaps it's time for a hard drive update.

#5 Posted by SoleVillain (40 posts) -

I really don't think that is the issue.

The games DX11 implementation is half baked and more or less broken across most hardware configurations. Try giving the latest Nvidia Beta driver release a go, if that doesn't help then you're going to have to play the game in DX9 like most of us dead (it was extra broken at launch).

It's either the graphics card needs an update or your computer needs an internal clean up. Every PC will collect a lot of garbage over the years that will affect the performance, making everything to go sluggish and slow - including running PC games. It's important that you regularly clear up all unwanted data out of the system to stop frequent slowdowns and freezes once and for all. Here's what you can do:

  • Clean up your windows registry
  • Empty the Recycle Bin
  • Remove programs
  • Run Disk Clean Up
  • Run Disk Defragmentation
  • Empty the prefetch cache

Go to this site for more information. This should solve the problem.

DX11 is buh-roken in Arkham City. Bonus trouble if you try to SLI.

#9 Posted by mak_wikus (475 posts) -

If you have a 32-bit system don't even try DX11. It's busted and can only be used in a 64-bit enviroment.

#10 Posted by SoleVillain (40 posts) -

I have a 64 bit os. I think the game is just horribly programmed .

Because you're playing it on a PC. Buy a console already. Duh :)

Woot, 720p and 30 FPS all the way. (sarcasm)

The game is broken with DX 11.

It should. I guess they never fixed the issue. It's not a big deal, tessellation isn't exactly used to it's fullest even on perfect DX 11 games. It's a subtle difference.

You're ruining video games.

Don't play that game in DX11. Trust me. It was broken at launch and it's still just as broken. It runs at around 22-30 frames on my system and our systems are fairly comparable. Just set it to extreme settings with your choice of AA and you're good.

Try the newest Nvidia beta driver, it says in the noted that it boosts performance up to 20% or some shit like that in Batman: AC

(Jokingly Says) No you are with supporting 7 and a half year consoles that need a hardware update.

(Still Jokingly Says) Just ask the best video game developer in the universe EPIC they know their shit. LOL

(Back On Topic) It seems like they shouldn't even have added DX 11 into Batman: AC, just a disgrace.

It is busted in DX11. Still.

#20 Posted by doobie (605 posts) -

unlucky... im running a i7 2600k, GTX570, 8 GB RAM and it runs like butter, very smooth with everything pushed to the max.

#21 Posted by hidys (1028 posts) -

yep as many have said dx11 is fucked in that game.

#22 Posted by AhmadMetallic (18955 posts) -

I guess I'm lucky. I played the game maxed out (with moderate AA) and with DX11 on, on my i5 2500K and GTX570, and it ran smoothly. 30-50 FPS.

Max settings? That's hard to believe on a 570.

#24 Posted by SoleVillain (40 posts) -

Bizarre. I'm mostly after the beefed up ambient occlusion. My video card steam rolls everything I play but dx11 Arkham city. There's no way it's more demanding than the witcher 2!

#25 Posted by SoleVillain (40 posts) -

Beta drivers helped a bit, but something is still clearly wrong.

I think the AA was on a medium level, otherwise I'm pretty sure I had everything else on highest.

FXAA medium? I actually don't know much about the 570 so I guess my comment was stupid. I was more basing it on my knowledge of the GTX 6xx series cards and the AMD 79xx series cards which still don't run the game very well on max settings with DX11.

#28 Posted by AlexW00d (6061 posts) -

I ran the game on pretty much max on my 6870 with dx11 on and it ran at like 40fps. I guess you're just unlucky, or I am lucky. I dunno. Blame GFWL.

#29 Posted by RIDEBIRD (1229 posts) -

It works fine in DX9. They didn't much care for the DX11 so don't use it.

#30 Posted by mak_wikus (475 posts) -

I have an i3 540 3Ghz, 4GB RAM, AMD 5770 1GB. B:AC runs on max, dx11, no tesselation without any problems.

#31 Posted by poveren (85 posts) -

I read that a lot of people didn't realize that their i5 cpus dont have hyperthreading, which crippled performance when turned on.

#32 Posted by charlie_victor_bravo (869 posts) -

Game ran fine for me most of the time. I had problem with GFWL where sometimes after the GFWL "log in pings" game would slow down to a crawl (~1fps).

#33 Posted by lyibran (1 posts) -

DX11 on this game is broken. Two patches were released by Rocksteady to try and resolve the issue. Both patches failed. The second patch improved performance just a little, but still not enough. There is nothing wrong with your pc.

Whoever said they can play this game buttery smooth on max....I think not. Fluctuations between 30 and 50 fps is not buttery smooth. There is no way you get that kind of performance on a single gtx 570 with DX 11 and physX set to max. And if plsying at 1080p, even less. With PhysX set to normal or off, DX11 off, and FX Anti Aliasing at 1080p, you could average about 45 to 50 fps with physx off, and about 30 fps with physx on normal.

I have a i7 2600k @ 4.2 GHz, 16 GB RAM, and two GTX 570 in SLI. In DX9, 1080p, 4x MSAA, and PhysX set to high, I can run this game at an average of 56 fps. And that's with DX11 off...although high physX takes a lot of performance. With PhysX on normal, I can sustain 60fps no problem

It's still smooth, but not buttery smooth as it can can still stutter here and there. With physix off, then yes. It is buttery smooth. With DX11 on and on max, it stutters like hell with very inconsistent frame rates. The game is not as demanding as Witcher 2, but it is poorly optimized.
