Along with some preview coverage they posted today, IGN broke the news that the final chapter in Rocksteady's trilogy has been pushed to next year (along with every single other game). This is one delay that I'm A-ok with. I LOVE the Batman games (yes, even Origins), so I want them to get it perfect.

Good. Arkham Origins made me a bit tired of Batman so this gives me more time to regain interest. Another reason this is good is because that's one less game in October. The month is crowded as it is.

2015 baby!

So 2015 is being set up to be another 2012.

2014 is turning into a seriously thin year...What big games are coming out this autumn now? The only things I can think of that are not the regular yearly emissions are Far Cry 4, Dragon Age and Destiny....

I guess 2014 is now The Waiting Year...

@leebmx: Unless they also get pushed back, in addition to what you've mentioned Alien:Isolation, Shadows of Mordor, Evolve, The Evil Within, Driveclub, WWE 2k15 and NBA 2k15 amongst some other more niche titles.

Between Destiny, Dragon Age Inquisition, Shadow of Mordor, Alien: Isolation, Far Cry 4 and The Evil Within there are still a ton of games for me to play, sorry for those who were counting solely on Batman, I guess...

Its not a lot when you compare to usual years. I don't play sports games or driving games and most years I will still end up with a huge backlog after Christmas is over. This year looks sparse, obviously there will be some good games but you can't take Witcher 3, Batman, The Order, The Division and Dying Light (off the top of my head) out of the 2014 without affecting things.

Obviously I would rather these games were as good as possible but still doesn't make '14 less disappointing. Also does anyone really believe that these games are all going to come out first quarter '15 and compete each other. I reckon some of these are going to be delayed at least a year.

Take that, all you people who told me Batman wasn't delayed in that random other thread about the Order.

The real thing that I think is meaningful here, rather than how empty my gaming schedule will or won't be, is how hard it must be on the console manufacturers to have so few marquee releases on their platform to spur an upgrade.

It wasn't though. I think most people were just aware that it probably wouldn't make 2014.

Destiny will be next...

As much as I am pleased that they are putting all efforts to getting this game bang-on, it is very disappointing to be pushed back. Hardly a surprise though. Hopefully it will be early 2015, as it hasn't been given a Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 slot yet, as far as I have seen anyway... Anyone?

Was probably not going to run on that venerable but old PC of mine and i'm not interested in upgrading this year so it's all good.

I'm glad I like Watch Dogs so much cause that game and I will be seeing A LOT of each other. Super bummed.

On the other hand it does give me time to stockpile funds for the crazy amount of games I'll be buying next year. So there's that.

But seriously, whatever happens to that game, surely the door is open now for the steal. I am really interested to see what game is going to step forward and steal the plaudits for 2014 GOTY.

I was expecting this to get delayed. From what I heard from Brad on the podcast it definitely sounded like a game that needed some extra development time.

I can't express how distraught I am by this. I'm usually okay with games getting delayed, because I understand that the more time a developer can fine tune and perfect their product, the better the result is for us.

but that aside, the rest of this year's looking pretty damn grim for releases.

Maybe I'll actually buy it next year instead of "Ah, probably not." Dragon Age Inquisition, and Halo 2 Anniversary it is! :D

Can't say this is a bad thing for me, I just beat Origins and while I'm not sick of the Batman formula, I will be more excited for Knight when it comes out next year now.

Destiny was first teased when Rocksteady had just finished Arkham Asylum (in Halo 3: ODST September 2009), they've been working on that game for a long time. Also, it has a September 9 release date, far earlier than the typical mid-October/early November release window, which suggests they are confident with the date. If they were struggling to get it out in 2014 the date would be as late in the holiday window as possible, but they set the 9/9 date months ago.

First year of new consoles is always garbage except for end of cycle games on the previous consoles (Dark Souls 2).

I'm ok with this. Rocksteady make fantastic games, if they need more time to make a great Batman game then so be it.

I feel like I hear "man, this year was a disappointment"/"man, now I'm just excited for next year instead" every single year.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, while waiting is a pain in the fucking ass, it's very good that they are taking their time with crafting and polishing the game, because this way the end result will be much more satisfying.

And the waiting will be worthwhile.

You know, I wasn't as down on this fall as most people but if there are many more delays it's really going to be bad.

The PS4 exclusive front looks particularly abysmal right now after the delay of The Order 1886. The Xbox One exclusives don't look that much better (though I'll take Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 over Drive Club).

As long as Dragon Age doesn't slip I'll be happy (and as long as they are making it more like Dragon Age then Dragon Age 2 - which I have to imagine they are since anyone with common sense would.)
