Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate is a Metroidvania Puzzle Platformer with some light action. I say light action cause between a hand full of boss fights and very few amount of enemy encounters there is barely any action to be found here. The Games main story is a quick and breezy 5 to 6 hours. Im currently heading around blackgate going for the Platinum trophy a feat i estimate will take me another 2 to 4 hours of exploration. Until Batman’s overnight stay in Arkham Asylum, the good-to-bad ratio of his video game appearances was worse than my kill-death ratio in most multiplayer shooters. But Rocksteady convinced console owners that an exceptional – not just decent – Batman game could exist free of imaginations. Handheld gamers need that same assurance, though they must find it elsewhere. Armature Studio crams the Caped Crusader onto Vita and 3DS touch screens, with none of the finesse. Fairly long for a Vita game, I enjoyed most of it, lots of creativity in the level design, more than Asylum/City. Boss fights in this game are brutal, Batman is very much a glass canon and most of the bosses are packing some heavy firepower.The gadgets are used much better than City and Asylum also, as annoyingly hard as most of the boss fights were, they were all creative and use of all your gadgets is key.A bit heavy on the backtracking, but I did get almost all the collectibles.The in game ma...1 out of 1 found this review helpful.
All three games in the Arkham series have done a good job at being “Metroidvania” type action adventure games. The same efforts were put forth with Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, and although on some level it succeeds in that, the game as a whole falls short. The map structure is confusing, the mission objectives bounces all over the place, and the story is an utter bore.
