So, it may seem a little premature, but I'm very curious to see where DICE takes Battlefield next.

Maybe they'll have a sort of Battlefield 1.5 release next year ...

But as great as Battlefield 1 is, it doesn't seem like they can milk the WWI era in the same way they've done with the 'modern' era (BF2, BF3, BF4 and the Bad Companies). DICE tapped into the early 1900s pretty damn deep; It's hard to imagine what else they could do with it outside a couple of map packs, before it all loses its originality.

    *****Here's my unqualified prediction*****

    Go back to 1942.

Not a giant leap from Battlefield 1. Lots of the maps / character design / weapons feel similar to OG BF.

    It's certainly been long enough.

And they could add some 1942 maps for fun, ala 1943 style.

What do you all think? What do you want to see Battlefield tackle next?

As the next mainline BF? back to Vietnam probably (hopefully.) I also wouldn't be surprised if the next game is BC3 though. The success of BF1 and online negativity towards CoD's future setting may have removed any possibilities of 2143 as well.

Because it's a novelty concept. Do you really see them making a new game in that era after two years of BF1 DLC? I'll give you one million dollars if they do.

I'm going to guess this is the start of Battlefield doing more original stuff, trying to make games focusing on wars that has not typically been popular in gaming. So next up is probably Korea or something like that.

@jonny_anonymous: Obviously depends on what your definitions of 'fantasy' and 'shooter' are. There's Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and the two Zeno Clash games (mostly melee-focused, though). Although, I get the feeling you're thinking more along the lines of standard medieval fantasy.

The Civil War obviously. They found the sketch for one completely theoretical man carried automatic weapon from the period and everyone is rolling around with that.

If I were them I would make at least one more WWI game.

I think the interesting thing to think about was how confident they were with this game. They knew they were fine 18 months ago, they knew their 'vision' of a WWI game (one full of automatic weapons) was going to appear to their Battlefield audiences for sure. So, the current game I think was a lot less risky than people might have though when they said it woudl be set during WWI. In my mind they were sure their game would work and they were sure enough to start planning a second game in the same universe.

I'm not sure what they plan for DLC aside from France, but I would think the next game could stress the Eastern Front in Russia and teh Southern Front in Italy if they don't use that for DLC.

If I had to guess they'll have the next Battlefield by a different team. Maybe DICE LA and it will be Bad Company in some form, though I'd doubt the modern setting will stay.

Maybe set it a little bit in the future. I would call it Battlefield 2.

Serious answer: with Titanfall and Battlefront, I think EA has their future shooter road map already set. I have never really played a Battlefield game before, but it seems like they are onto something with the mechanical aspect of WWI (despite how awful that sounds on paper). But between the horses, infantry, early tanks and airplanes, it feels like there are pretty unique gameplay mechanics between all of the different technologies, which brings something different to the table than near-future man running around/flying/wall riding/air dashing.

Granted they could do that type of gameplay in a future setting, but I imagine they are cautious of future fatigue, especially with how they have been going after Call of Duty's sales figures for ages. So maybe they do another WWI game and see where it takes them from there.

Going back to WWII would be outstanding for me. Would love to see it again with this technology and the improvements to the formula they've made, plus the fact that they seem to be able to make good singeplayer.

I guess they could go medieval or something like that. They could go American Civil war or cowboys & indians, or Starship Troopers (humans versus space aliens) etc. I don't think of Battlefield as something that has to go realistic at all. They could go Terminator as well, with robots versus humans; or maybe do a Warhammer 40k licensed game. In short they can do anything they want and I'd pretty much be more into it than this WW1 thing.

    Just remaster this game:

    Loading Video...

Listen to that music and tell me you don't want to play BF2 again. You can't. You also can't play BF2 anymore because EA took the master servers down. Thank god for Project Reality though. I honestly don't know why anyone would buy a new Battlefield when PR exists and is a much better experience for free.

The pacing needs to come back. It's not that BF2 didn't have moments of twitch shooting, oh boy it did, but those moments also had room to breathe. Modern Battlefield is always at full speed. The situation is a lot like the loudness wars in music. Give me some dynamic range.

Battlefield 1944. They already dabbled in this time period with Market Garden in BF:1942, but just imagine what they could do now. We are about due for another beach landing scene again anyways. Not really sure where COD can go anymore since they jumped the shark with a spaceship.

Also we have a perfect period to slip in Bad Company 3 while they figure all of this out too.

    Battlefield: Apoloclypse

Takes place after WW3 after the bombs have dropped and the Earth is now a barren wasteland with people fighting over the small scraps that are still livable.

Play as the new classes like; Mark with his sharp rock. Ethan with his pointy stick. Nancy with her rock tied to a stick and finally Tony with the bigger rock.

I always come back to alternative history. It allows for creativity, its has less cultural dynamite to explode in your face, and ist new and old at teh same time.

I have thought that the time between Korea and Vietnam would be interesting. You have East and West in an arms race, yet nothing to really fight with those fancy toys. so a lot of the fancy toys go to waste or are not developed fully.

Dunno I am not that keen on returning to world war 2 yet...kinda feel that the period got covered into point of exhaustion. I think the problem with ww1 has been that publishers thought for a long time that people wouldnt be into ww1 style weaponry which isnt as effective as the weapons used in ww2 or the modern weapons used in todays world.
