Return to the Pacific Theater in this simpler, downloadable, console-exclusive sequel to the massive World War II first-person shooter Battlefield 1942. It was later shut down on December 2023.
Battlefield 1943: $15, Hits Consoles In June, PC In September
Hmm. I'm a huge Battlefield fan and have played both console games, BF2, 1942 and 2142 (also the BF Heroes Beta) and I'll definitely be getting this.
That said, I hope this isn't the proper PC sequel to BF2 :(
Yeah man, Battlefield 1942 was epic, and Wake Island was one of the best. My personal favorite is still Operation Marketgarden, so I'm a bit sad that isn't in there, but on the upside, Guadalcanal never worked on my PC for some reason and it's in this game, so it's like a totally new map!
I'm stoked! I really dont care about single player in battlefield games so this kind of release is great with me!
Lame that it's 3 months later on the PC, but since I'm indifferent seeing that it looks like a scaled down, casual gamer version of 1942 with 1/6th of the maps, I'm not going to dwell on it. And no, not looking forward to it at all tbh.
If you guys want to play Wake Island, 1942 can probably be had for less than $15 these days, and will play on my $250 Netbook, so I'm sure it'll play on your PC.
Yeah, and they can their BF Heroes beta key back too, cause that's pretty much crap as well.
DICE has had 2 worthwhile BF games, 1942 and BF2, everything else has been garbage. Doesn't look like anything on the horizon will change that.
Played 42 back in the day, but im going to have to go with "No" if you're asking me if this game seems to be a worthy successor.
Fewer classes, fewer max players, fewer maps (though to be fair, it's only 15 bucks)
In every way (except for graphics), this game is a total downgrade. And the whole infinite ammo thing is really dumb.
If this is the direction EA wants to take the battlefield series; then I'm sorry, but they can kiss my ass.
'42 was lightning in a bottle. I never got the same feeling from anything that followed, including BF2. So, it'll be interesting to see how I feel about this. I don't really mind the class changes or regenerating health. BF '42 was never really about teamwork; it was much looser in the sense that you could venture off by yourself and still manage to accomplish something. Which was nice.
Definitely buying it. $15 is a steal and includes Wake and Iwo Jima, two of my favorites. I hope they completely redo Guadalcanal, though. I also hope this is gentle on my puny hard drive in terms of space requirements.
I'm definitely going to pick up this game. But I'm dissapointed that they're going to release it on consoles first. It came out on the PC first and it should continue to have support that way. I mean I still have a PS3 (sold my 360 so I can repair my PC). But I'm just going to wait for it to come out on PC before I get it. Any idea if it will be coming to Steam?
Oh and Krakn3Dfx Battlefield 2142 is really good as well. Though it only has 4 classes. But it has tones of unlockables and medals. You should check it out. I still play that and Battlefield 2 to this day.
'42 was the first game I played online, so I can't wait to get back in this game.
And yes, Wake Island is the best map ever made.
This should be free......payback for battlefield: bad company having the worlds worst servers of any game on xbox 360. IT WAS HORRIBLE playing that game online, such a shame because when you got in a good lag free game it's hella fun. :/
Not to sound like an elitist or anything but I kinda hope this game is geared more toward the hardcore crowd than it sounds like it does right now. If this feels arcadey or anything like that I doubt it'll hold my interest for too long. That trailer is pretty good though and gives me a lot of confidence. Worth a demo download at least

Biggest loss will be doing crazy stuff like filling a jeep with remote explosives and driving into an enemy base.
