A standard for all future downloadable games
Battlefield 1943 is a testament to what downloadable games have become and should be. The game has amazing graphics, great gameplay, and all for a great price.
Battlefield 1943 is sort of a sequel to 2002's Battlefield 1942. This games features 3 maps (not including a 4th airplane only map that was unlocked recently), 3 classes, one game mode. You think "Man, thats not much" and you are right it isn't but the asking price isn't much and the gameplay is addictive.
First of all, the graphics are amazing not only for a downloadable game but it actually looks almost as good as a retail game. The game uses the Frostbite engine from Bad Company so much of the geometry is destructible and blows up well. There are so minor graphical glitches such as screen tearing and falling through the ground when dying.
Since this is only a $15 game there is not that much content but whats there is excellent. There are 3 player classes: Scout, Infantry, and Rifleman. They are all well balanced and have unique abilities. The three maps included are the most popular ones from 1942: Wake Island, Iwo Jima, and Guadalcanal. The fourth map is an airplane only map where dogfigting and using AA guns to shoot down planes is the focus. You can also pilot planes and bombers in the other maps but if you are always not able to get them I recommend playing Coral Sea (the airplane map).
Overall, Battlefield 1943 is a great buy for $15. The content may be limited but the gameplay is addicting and the graphics are great.
