Hey guys. Like the title says, I'm having some trouble launching BF2. The version I am trying to launch is from Steam. Every time I open it, the screen turns black, which is to be expected. But then, instead of going to the splash screen, it just goes back to my desktop, with no error messages.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I have tried going into the config files, running as admin, and re-downloading PunkBuster, which are the solutions that I found on random forums.

    Thanks in advance!

Shot in the dark here but it's worth a try. Have you right-clicked the shortcut -> properties -> compatibility -> check "run in compatibility mode" and choose windows xp sp3 ? I've had to do that on a few older games but I can't say I've had the chance to try BF2. Good luck duder.

I'm running BF2 from Steam on Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. I've had no issues outside of having to deactivate Steam community when I play online. I can't help you beyond showing that it's solvable.

Did you try the "verify integrity of game cache" option?
Right click on the game title/icon in your games list.
    Properties.
    Local Files Tab.
    Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

I'd try that if the game compatibility option doesn't work...

It's a long shot, as they've probably patched it since back in the day, but it sounds like what used to happen to me when I had an invalid resolution set in the cfg files. You could check it to see that refresh rate and resolution are compatible with your monitor.
