Associate Producer, Barry Tingle stated on the EA UK forums that a Battlefield 2142 patch is in the works, although a release date is unknown.

That is part of the patch yes. [No DVD fix] I can't give you a date on when it will be done but programmers are still working on it here. Localisation has been completed and we have been in closed beta for a couple of weeks and fixing some issues that came up in those tests.

Localisation is due to us making the game in English and then the localisation process is where every other language gets translated and approved for use.So it goes out to each territory to get the game transalted to French, German, Spanish etc etc. Takes ages to do

Will it finally allow people to get rid of EA Link in order to play the game?  If so, then I'm in.

This is good news. Sounds like they'll be putting it on Steam too like they did with BF2 when they recently released the 1.5 patch for that.
