    A community target to unlock maps is one thing, but Facebook likes to unlock a trailer - who cares?  It'll be out when it's out.

    I don't actually use Facebook, what is involved in "like"ing something? Basically, does it spam your friends with a "you liked blank" message or does it just increment a number? The latter is fine with me, the former is crap.

    you go to the page, hit the Like button.
    you get listed in the big "likers" column on said page
    your friends get an ordinary feed that says "donos likes this" (those feeds arent spam. there's new feeds 24/7. its an ordinary FB function)

    Usually it's not really bad because most people don't "like" pages to often, but when someone "likes" something it will show on his friends feed. Also every time the creator of the company posts something on it's page it will show on your feed so you also get spam, and because this page is ment for marketing you can be damned sure they will post there a lot.

     

    Now this "like" system is mostly good for marketing but people don't seem to understand that every time your friend see "Joe likes Diet Coke" he basicly sees "Joe thinks Coke is great" even if it's only on a subconscious level. Now if an average got around 150 friends on facebook and they get 1,000,000 likes it means 150,000,000 people will see "hey I think Battlefield 3 is great!". All of this is just for a 4 min long trailer that they would have shown anyway.

     

    So yeah the fact that people don't understand how all their doing is just give the company a lot of free marketing by flooding their feed and their friends feed disgusts me.

    who are we kidding? we get fucked and duped and manipulated and ripped off and tricked and lured in by most developers and publishers and console manufacturers, stealing our money and controlling our rightfully-owned systems and selling us on-disk content etc... the video game industry is one of the most expensive rip offs in the world, so lets cut the shit and give DICE all the free marketing they want, so they can throw yet another bone our way

    they fucking deserve the marketing anyway. if theres any developer to respect for top notch products, being true to their roots and pumping out original innovative installments year after year (unlike tired rehashed franchises milked year after year on the same engine), with terrific fan mod tools and support, its DICE. not to mention that they actually listen to the fans and are resisting turning BF into COD while all other shooter developers have submitted.

    @Ahmad_Metallic: If thats your opinion then I agree with you for liking their Battlefield 3 page but I don't think people should click like and spam their friends just to see a trailer they can see a week later.
