Alotta people who've been worried about BF3 not being a genuine Battlefield game, have been saying they prefer 4 kits
and that makes my stomach turn

    7 kits.

Edit :  7 sounding crazy to you? let me quote myself from something i posted on the second page :

You know what made Battlefield 2 so great ?

you'd have 6 people in your squad (including you) =>

    • you and another guy are Anti Tank (one shoots down helos and the other, tanks)
    • a medic to give you health kits and revive you
    •   The Squad Leader (and your only mobile spawn point) is a support guy to give you ammo and help with his  machine gun firepower
    • a sniper to stay a few meters behind the squad, on higher ground (as you advance to the next point) to clean up the next flag before you guys reach it
    • a Spec Ops guy to boobytrap birdges after you cross them, or rig your car with C4 so that you'd jump out and then he blows it up

alternatives : an Assault for firepower and an Engineer to keep fixing your vehicles, throw land mines around a flag after you capture it and occasionally help with his one-shot-kill shotgun

Battlefield 2 had individuality. you'd have 7 kinds of players all doing their different jobs... the most amazing team-based experience ever.

I was fine with the kits present in 2. That said, I would not mind seeing those expanded to include a couple of other classes.

Muscle-spasm'd, clicked D, meant B, but yeah, 6-7 rather than four or less.

It's like Crysis, a sweet radial menu, no problem to alternate between suit powers in combat in a single life, often used all of them before I died, and then Crysis 2 comes along and has two per suit tops? Was it a conscious design choice to shoehorn "class" gameplay into it in a really amateurish manner or did they go "oh the console gamers will have trouble counting numbers that high we better.."?

Hence worry about it. Be praying. BF3 PC will be the ultimate version. If DICE are given the time and money they need, the PS3 can receive the ultimate console version of BF3 with ease.

It'd be great to have the classics back (ie Spec ops, Recon, Assault, Engy, support, and medic)
If the developers were really feeling nice they'd allow some slots for custom classes as well or changeable equipment like an engy who can resupply or a medic who can demo, this would be a fresh change from other battlefield games, allowing some lone wolves to be less dependent on other teammates

for 2 years playing Battlefield 2 all i used was my MP5 and rocket launcher... they should separate AT & Engineer and make them like they used to be. the engineer should have the tools and land mines and shotgun, while the AT's job is to shoot armors and helicopters with his rocket launcher while defending flags with his SMG

I think  BC2 was a little squished together, but BF2 was maybe one too many. So 5 to 6.

Oh wow.  I completely forgot about AT being a separate kit.  I had it combined with Engineer for some reason.

But yeah, they should probably just combine those two.  It's one of the few things that works well with BC2's classes.

@Ahmad_Metallic:  Rockets for far range kills and shotgun for the close range kills. I guess I was kind of a douche.

5 for bad company sounds good, thats one more kit ! but 5 for BF3 instead of a minimum of 6 is bad news !

so the kit you want is C4 + shotgun ? well the C4 goes with the M4 in the spec ops kit while the Shotgun goes with land mines + repair tools for the engineer !

    4 kits, pc gamer.
But I wouldn't mind more weapons choice for each kit.

We have to think about balancing issues here as well, 4 is easier then 7

I actually prefer 4 consolidated kits, but only the way 2142 did it, where you have a variety of equipment unlocks that give each kit a wider array of unique ways you can outfit it.

4 kits definitely wears thin with the way BC2 is set up.  Very little of the customization in the game actually meaningfully expands the capabilities of a given class.  Most of it is just preferential customization - selecting what guns you want to use most right then, and picking your boring, passive specializations that give you a slight edge in this way or that.

BC2 does the first thing that 2142 did - consolidate the classes to fix the tricky issue BF2 has (IMO) of classes' unique capabilities being spread too thin sometimes.  The part BC2 forgot was expanding the range of each class to compensate for the lack of variety this consolidation causes.  It has plenty of customization, but like I said, it's all very generic stuff.  Aside from things like switching from C4 to mortars, RPG to land mines, AR/GL to shotgun/C4, etc., none of the customization in the game really changes your unique capabilities.

Of course, I can't say I'd be against having both 7 classes AND the kind of meaningful class equipment customization that 2142 has.  That'd probably be pretty hard to do, though.

7 as per battlefield 2.  Also, medics shouldn't have both the best weapons in the game and the ability to heal themselves like in BC2.  Though I guess between the M16 and G36e in BF2, medics weren't doing so bad there either since in single shot mode, M16 was basically a scopeless sniper rifle. <3

Also, you could get 3 weapons (at least) in each kit that could be unlocked.

I'd like to have more kits to work with. A kit should have an identity, BC2 seemed to have lost some of that for some odd reason.

I don't like weapon restrictions on classes, so I'd rather they stick with the least amount of classes so there's more weapons available per class.

I'd like to see the old leveling system from bf2142 or BF2
I hate having to use a class  I don't like (read bad primary weapon) in order to make that class better
It doesn't do any good to have a low tier sniper on your team trying to gain exp to unlock the next rifle, when he's a much better assault player

Depends on the player count, but if the consoles could get a basic count of 32 players per game, i would say 6-7 for sure. If its 24 or so, it needs to be 4 or 5.

None of the options. I don't care HOW many kits there are as long as they can be highly specialized. But more than 4 will probably start getting redundant.

Well the 1.51 beta2 patch became the final 1.51 patch earlier this week, turns out. And the servers are supposed to switch over to the new version this week some time. It was active enough (a number of full servers to choose from) a few months ago, so I'm sure it hasn't died off entirely in that time. I'll get on again in a few and see how active it is in the day time.

I re-installed and got on again last night (at about 3 am here) and the only server opoulated with more than 1 soldier was an Australian server with 10. But there were a lot of empty servers too, which makes me think right now is one of the awkward moments where most of the people that play it haven't updated yet.

edit: Nope, I unchecked "Same Version" in the search options and got a bunch of well populated 1.50 servers. Damn, EA must have set up a lot of beta servers if there were that many in the Same Version list. I guess they haven't given the word to switch yet.

around 5 would be cool, 7 is a bit too much and unnecessary. theres alot of role overlap in the BF2 kits.
maybe make the kits more customizable with restrictions on what you can take. im not a game designer so i dont really know specifically how to do it, but customization is always cool but having too many roles is a bit unnecessary.

make them specialized enough that all the classes are necessary to win but versatile enough to hold their own and be useful even if their specialization isn't required at that moment.  i'd prefer to be able to have some control over the weapon types i get, maybe allow two primary weapon categories per kit or something, i dunno. 7 seems like a bit too much and makes them too specialized.

i play both PC and console but i intend on getting this for PC if that matters.

The more I think about it, the more I think they should do what Project Reality did and just expand on that.
