Well they did say it would end on August 1st. Though I think the site is just down, otherwise there would have surely been a "Alpha is now closed" screen.

Has there been any mention of whether Alpha players also get to move on too the Beta? Prevailing theory I keep hearing is that Beta is MoH LE invite only, but I don't see why they wouldn't want to keep the people that have experienced one version of the game already and can judge the changes/improvements.

No. That has been confirmed. Participation in Alpha testing does not qualify you for Closed Beta testing.
