UPDATED: Is This A Leaked Screenshot Of Battlefield 3?

DICE has been a busy bee of late. From Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, to Medal of Honor, to period piece add-ons for Bad Company 2, EA has been leaning on DICE to deliver content for all kinds of games. All the while, DICE has been in active development on the next iteration in its flagship Battlefield franchise, Battlefield 3. Details are, sadly, still hard to find, but there's a chance that the first image of the game has been leaked.

Battlefield 3 Blog believes it might just have the first, totally unofficial image of the game, which doesn't even have a release date yet. The image (below) reportedly comes from a Swedish fellow who calls himself "Doe," who snapped a quick one at the home of a DICE developer, obviously off a TV or a monitor.

To be crystal clear: this is in no way an official screenshot of the game and the source here is suspect to boot. However, the shot does look legit. The soldiers, the atmosphere, and the guns look very Battlefield-esque, and as the BF3 Blog notes, the HUD elements take specific cues from various BF games, most notably Battlefield 2.

Unfortunately, we won't know if this image is real or not until DICE actually tosses out the first screen of the game, which might take a while. Feel free to take this shot with a grain of salt, or salivate with the rest of us. Whatever makes you happy!

The map is Arica Harbour, its town more specifically. All the assets look like they're from BC2.

It's possible the interface is actually one of the many iterations DICE were toying with leading into the release of BC2; from the various short gameplay trailers you could see they were tinkering with different designs.

I very much doubt this is BF3.

The player-character in Killzone 2 was practically that short. Good-grief, Sev seemed to be about 4''1' in that game.

Nothing interesting nor special about that image. It's becoming much harder to differentiate between the numerous shooters these days.

Could well be. The poses and positioning of both the camera and other players make me think it's more of a pre-rendered screenshot though.

BF3 is the game that makes me upgrade my pc
even if i can only just play BLOPS atm with an unstable framerate

So fake it's obvious. It's a BC2 screenshot in the background, with a custom made shitty looking minimap, and a random bc2 gun slapped on the front. This is embarassingly fake why is this even posted?

This just in: Battlefield 3 will be a desaturated version of BFBC 2.

That said, I imagine Battlefield 3 will look a lot like this.

there's always the chance it's the new F2P Battlefield coming out. It does run on the BC2 engine.

I read that it was its own unique variation of the engine used in BF2/2142/Heroes, like each game before it.
