Battlefield 3
Game » consists of 15 releases. Released Oct 25, 2011
Battlefield 3 is DICE's third numerical installment in the Battlefield franchise. It features a single player and co-operative campaign, as well as an extensive multiplayer component.
We got a legit beta leak! and the crowd goes nuts!
The sense of speed from that cockpit is pretty intense...
And the rushed radio messages as you light guys up on your HUD as you spin your head around in the cockpit? The day that game comes out I'm just gonna scream Goose for hours on end.
Could this possibly be any lower res?? Dude could have at least uploaded in non-cellphone resolution. Really hard to see things here.
There are some other gameplay things that came out today (possibly the same leaker, but even worse resolution in some):
This whole flight sequence looks a little.. weird. It has to be on rails and the player is basically the gunner of the aircraft? Idk, just looks weird that he has to "look at" the aircraft he wants to take out till they explode.I never understood why you don't have rockets you can fire backwards.
The sense of speed in that jet sequence is awful. Play LOMAC or any number of flight games and you'll know how fast it really should feel. It also looked like an on-rails-fest á la MOH's Apache level.
I have a feeling these vids, and particularly that awful 360 screenshot, are marketing "leaks" to downplay expectations for what the console version will look like.
@emem: isn't deal breaker a factor which sways a person over whether they will do something or, in this case, buy something? The multiplayer for many, many people is what they are buying BF3 for.

When you fired them they'd be travelling the wrong way at several hundred mph = :(
True, but the object you're firing at is also moving at this speed, so the rocket propulsion would only have to apply enough force for it to move slower than you. Resulting in it moving towards your target.
@itsjoncharles: Just like @The_Nubster wrote, it basically means that there is something that "breaks the deal" for you, so in your case you wrote that the multiplayer is the negative part that stops (or can stop) you/people from buying the game. It's nothing to feel bad about though.. happens to everyone. ;)

'Moving towards' is a bit optimistic. The distance between target and missile would decrease initially, true, but the missile would still be flying backwards and falling out of the sky due to having no lift or maneuverability. Instead of the missile directing itself into target, you would be relying on the target flying itself into the missile (unlikely).
I'm not, not much of a fan of war shooters anyway, mostly getting it for co op and mp fun with my cousin.@TaliciaDragonsong said:
Looks alright, definitely picking this up when I can get it for 20.I'm buying it full price.
I've got too many other purchases which I can barely afford to be able to buy this fullprice, nor do I think its worth it (purely my opinion, I'm sure the game is great for others who dig it!).

How about an initial free-fall, with the missile maintaining altitude by way of fins, slowing down by air resistance until it was behind the other craft and then firing its propulsion?
(I am of course aware that greater minds than mine have not seen this idea as feasible, hence we don't have them..but it's still fun to discuss as laymen).

The player is the gunner, so yes it is on rails. Thats why he is targeting the enemy aircraft and dropping the flares.
Bad Company 1 had a heli level.. but it wasn´t very complex (basically a straight corridor/canyon) and it didn´t really train people to be better pilots in Multiplayer.
I don't care if that jet footage is on rails and you're just the co-pilot, the voice acting and heavy breathing is exactly how a pilot sounds trying to avoid being shot down by a heat seaking missile. That is some really well-done and realistic voice acting. That sold it to me. Also the other f/a-18 flying over you is awesome.

Not even remotely original for a video game.
These on-rails "gameplay" segments are becoming the bane of video games. It's a one-button controller future if they keep pandering to the lowest common denominator.
Immersion indeed. Seems like a long shot, but you think B-Company would at least make a small cameo somewhere?

Looked cool to me. Sorry, guess I'm a terrible person then.
Nope, you're fine, I thought that game trailer was awesome also. That was just jaded gamer #576923 giving us his .02 about modern military shooters.Looked cool to me. Guess I'm a terrible person then?

They have those on real jets right? At least the ones that can turn and hit a pursuer.

Can you imagine just how much thrust you need for a rocket to be launched in one direction at super sonic speed, come to a stop, and then go back wards? Missiles that are shot forward but does a giant 180 degree turn is a lot more feasible. Physics is a bitch.

That wasn't a trailer, that was gameplay, but then you wouldn't know the difference.

The problem is that it wouldn't hit the target with much momentum because it's basically decelerating to 0 m/s, so it wouldn't do any ballistic damage.

That isn't the problem, and missiles don't work like that.

you might wanna skip to 6:13 and hear something really familiar.

I also noticed that.
