I know on the Tested forum there are a lot of people building PCs for BF3. While mine was built in preparation for BF3, I play just about every game that comes out, so it's not exclusively for BF3. I dropped about $2100 building this mammoth and can't wait to finally give it a challenge (even The Witcher 2 on maximum everything doesn't get it going).

If you did, what did you build? For me:

    Core i5 2500k overclocked to 4.0Ghz, Two GeForce 570 GTXs in SLI, 8GB DDR3, 128GB SSD, 2TB HDD

Should be able to play BF3 at maximum options with ease. The alpha certainly offered no real stress. Downloading the beta now.

Just curious what everyone else will be rocking.

Not for BF3 specifically, no. I just wanted to play PC games.

So do I, I'm just lucky enough to have a decent job as well. I saved for it for about four months.

That should play it very well.

Not yet, but I will. I'm currently running an i9-930 with 12gb ram and a 2gb HD5970 that I built last year. I'm not sure what I'm going to replace it with, but I'll get around to something in the next couple of months. Problem at the moment is that I can't find the PSU or the GPU I want in stock anywhere. I don't know why, but the highest end cards are really fucking hard to find anywhere for the last few weeks.

Of course, I still won't expect miracles. I don't know if there is ever going to be a current game that I'm going to be able to run with maximum candy at 2560x1600 with a high frame-rate. I can dream, though. :)

    I didn't build it for BF3 specifically, but it'll be the first challenge it actually has: 2600k @ 4Ghz, 2x6950s, 8GB RAM, Dell U2410 monitor, 7.1 1200W sound system.

    My body is ready.

Broke college student reporting it! I certainly don't have two grand lying around anymore after this.

Maybe I was to harsh, I actually do have $1500 saved up- but I think I'm going to use it to pay off my next semester right away. Battlefield 3 looks great, but not great enough for me to build a new PC for right now.

@TooWalrus: Believe me, that's the smart move. As awesome as it will be, you cannot give priority to a new PC.

Also, $1500 total for a semester or just the remaining? If it truly is $1500, sign me up. I'm paying near ten grand per semester at this point. (and that's as cheap as I could find, for a state school.)

I pretty much built the exact PC they built for Jeff on Tested.com. took me a while to save up for it and bought the parts over time.

the GTX570 was £250 and as much as I was willing to spend on a graphics card.

    i7 2600k which i've overclocked to 5Ghz with 8GB ram.

so im not expecting 'ultra' setting, but at least very high... can't wait.

@Mirado: I've got one more semester at Delta college (which is only about $1500), but next year I'm going to Northwood University (and it's going to cost me 20 grand for the year). They've got a program where you can do 3 years of business school at Delta, then a year at Northwood, and graduate with a Northwood degree.

@TooWalrus: That's not that bad. With rent and utilities for my apartment, it's like I'm paying for a third semester each year....

Come to think of it, anyone want to buy a pretty nice gaming PC? :D

I would take $1500/semester over $40,000/year any day. If I paid $1500 I would build a new gaming PC every month.

I upgraded my pc a bit, but haven't gotten around to upgrading the gpu yet. Went from my amd cpu and 4 gigs ddr2 to an i5-2500, 8gigs ddr3. Still rocking a 6850 overclocked which actually runs the beta really well.

@Jasta: I took a similar photo before building mine a few weeks ago.
