Hey guys, I am currently in decision whether or not to purchase Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the PC. I enjoy online FPS but I have a lot to play at the moment (CounterStrike: Source, Team Fortress 2).
I have heaps of firends playing it but I just bought Mirror's Edge so I am stuck on whether to purchase the game or not.
Also, I did enjoy Modern Warfare 2 but hated the issues it had (Dedicated Servers, Unbalanced) so would I enjoy the game.
Thanks guys for any help you may give me ^__^

To buy or not to buy: Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Buy it. The game is great. Lots of fun. The online is great. And map packs are gonna be free when they come out.
Which system you going for?
Also your gonna need to get used to the bullet drop. And bullets not dissappering when your target dies.

If your PC can run it, then get it. It's a great game that isn't plagued by the same issues Modern Warfare 2 had and, from my personal experience, EA's servers haven't been messing up as much as when the game launched. On the other hand, you do have Mirror's Edge to tide you over, so you might want to look into the future release calendar and see what else your money could be spent on.
" @NekuSakuraba: If you have lots of friends that play then by all means, follow suit. It's ZERO fun without guys you have good FPS Chemistry with. "Is it really zero fun without friends? :(
Thanks for turning me off it >__<

but I calls em like I sees em. I may have saved you 60 dollars.....
Get it.The game is great. You could always join the GB team and vent, but my experience with all that was a bit hollow,in like,I only got to play(with vent on) with jmrwacko and was pretty dissapointed that no one really hung out on vent when they wore playing.
Bad Company 2 is my main multiplayer game since it was released and is still as fun as the day I got it, it's great.
" Hey guys, if I buy the retail version will it go on Steam? "I believe it will. All games do that, don't they? EA have something in the game box, so if your disc doesn't work you can download from their site, or so I hear. Even if it doesn't quite go into Steam to begin with all you have to do is install it, and then go to Games, and then Add Non-Steam Games. Find Bad Company 2 and add it in. ;)

get it, im currently saving money to buy it, even tho im renting it. it's the kind of game that you'll continue to play, even after unlocking achievements and weapons
The game is great and its OK to play without friends. There were LOADS and LOADS of server problems and a couple of odd bugs. I couldnt play in the last 2 weeks though, since I'm not at home, so maybe those problems are solved. There's quite a bunch of stuff to unlock which should add some motivation. The biggest annoyance in bfbc2 is when team are uneven, which is often the case. But in general the community is pretty mature for a multiplayer game, so that's another plus. Just don't get it for the single player, since that part sucks (in my opinion).
Pros:
- Bullet drop and travelling time for bullets makes u feel epic when sniping.
- 4 game modes which all feel decidedly different when playing.
- Kill dudes in a tank.
- High player count.
- Focus on team dynamics
- Lots of different ways to play the game (UAVs, Tanks, Helis, Rockets, Reviving, Sniping, C4, Assault)
- Kill people over the map with a headshot with a shotgun ;)
Cons:
- Not a whole lot of different maps (but still enough)
- It had loads of server problems to start with
- There are no airplanes, just helicopters this time around -> No epic dogfights
- U can't go prone
- The weapons feel decidedly weaker in comparison to mw2 (That is, the Assault rifles). It's hard to kill more than 2 people in a row, even if u catch them all from behind (they just need to long to die)
- Focus on team dynamics.
- The weapons u unlock in the course of the game are often not decidedly different and often weaker than/equal to the starting weapons
That's you can only play Just Cause 2 on Steam. The retail version still installs Steam. Just Cause 2 is an integrated Steam game and that is the only reason you can do that." @xMP44x said:

This is an EA game though and EA has their own service. You just gotta enter your key @ activate.ea.com to have it show up in your EA Downloader account. But you don't need to use that or steam since the game doesn't require the disc to play (if you choose online activation). And you can always add any game to the Steam browser so you can have the shift+tab overlay handy if you want.
Oh, and of course get it. If you enjoy online FPS, you have no excuse not to. Why waste you time on an old game like Counter Strike?

Hey, just signed in and wanted to join this discussion.
I too want to get this game, as it would be the first FPS I've gotten in quite a while, however, I'm debating as to whether I should get it used from somewhere like Amazon or just get it from steam and wait for a sale? (As a side note, I'm also planning on getting Supreme Commander 2 and Dawn of War II: Gold Edition from Steam as well.)
So, were you in my shoes, would you wait for a sale on Steam or just get it used... if you can purchase it and play it used?
Apologies, but I can't help but be a penny pincher.
