A bit overrated?

#1 Posted by duxup (354 posts) -

Normally a suggestion like this is just like chumming the waters in some forums but I'll not trying to troll here.

I picked up BF:BC after reading the GB review and I have to say I was a bit disappointed.  By no means is it a bad game but I've found it to be fairly unpolished with lots of minor bugs / flaws here or there.  Anyone else feel the same way?

#2 Posted by Player1 (3852 posts) -

I havent played much but id have to agree. Still enjoying it though

#3 Posted by MichaelBach (876 posts) -

I actually never gave the game another thought until I saw Jeff's review and decided to try out the demo which convinced me to buy the game.

What kind of flaws/bugs did you find? I haven't really noticed anything.

I love Bad Company. The single-player is decent, but the multiplayer really makes the game.

#5 Posted by natsfan7 (56 posts) -

Bad Company is an amazing game. It has a good single-player mode, and the multiplayer is amazing. It is the best "modern warfare" FPS out for the 360 (I  don't know about the PS3). Thats right, you  heard what I said: Bad Company.> COD4! I'm not say COD4's bad, but BC is better; There is so much crap going on in BC. It isn't a perfect game by any means, but it is very good. It deserves 5 stars.

#6 Posted by Forzen (89 posts) -

It does have its flaws and bad points but once you can see past or get used to them its an awesome game, especially the multi-player.

#7 Posted by gold_n_eye (82 posts) -

To the thread creator: Try playing the game some more. It will take a while to get use to it and once you get around the flaws, you will be hooked, especially the multiplayer. Overall, it's a very addictive game that give you that feeling of...<oh, i'll just play another game until i'm done> and next thing you know it's 2 in the morning and are wondering where time went?

More like underrated

#9 Posted by nerouke (47 posts) -

I've played a bit, but I like what I played. The one thing that stuck with me is the sound design. The guns sounds like they handout some major PAIN!

#10 Posted by DorianBlack (311 posts) -

Whats unpolished about it? It's one of the better looking games I've seen in a while.

#11 Posted by JoeMarsden (300 posts) -

There are many bugs within Bad Company, especially with the multiplayer, but when you have a persistant stats/ranking system, there are bound to be. Also, any new release will have bugs-a-plenty, it's just the way it is. Game developing is a long, hard process, which surprisingly, most people don't seem to see. (Not directing that at you guys exactly, but you can probably see where i'm coming from).

#12 Posted by TinyGrenade (141 posts) -

I think the game is fantastic, maybe Jeff went a little far with how great the explosions are but his review was enough for me to go out and get BF and I have yet to regret it.

#13 Posted by _F_ (32 posts) -

This site is over rated if that is what you mean

#14 Posted by Tortoise (178 posts) -

The effect of firing a weapon is excellent in terms of sound, recoil and its effect on the environment. That's what makes it fun I guess.
I did find it very hard to see the enemy most of the time, having to rely on the radar to even give me a clue as to where anyone was.

#15 Posted by AaronBelfast (1491 posts) -

Yous are all bashing it yet it got 5/5 here at GiantBomb which tells us they need to get their review system sorted out.

Disagree with you on that one

Care to explain what these "bugs/flaws" are?

#18 Posted by DarkLegend (1387 posts) -

I like that game, not overrated at all.

#19 Posted by AnTiPRO (93 posts) -

I'm enjoying the single player alot. I haven't done alot of multiplayer, but from what I've played I'm not a fan.

#20 Posted by p4ddym1607 (995 posts) -

I decided not to get the game because i am still playing Call of Duty 4 multiplayer.

#21 Posted by Peter_J (151 posts) -

The first time i played the demo I actually didn't like it, but i gave it another chance, now I own the game and LOVE IT!

Same here,i loved Modern Combat and was looking forward to Bad Company, but at first i thought the demo was a bit meh.But personaly,i don't think Oasis was the best choice for the demo map.

But over time the bug bit.....the trouble is people compare this with Cod4,so if you are new to the Battlefield series you will find it slow in comparison, which is also the view of some of my friends.
#23 Posted by spragels (97 posts) -

I think the minor flaws this game has doesn't detract from the gameplay at all. I have only played the multiplayer but I think this game is easily one of the best of the year.

#24 Posted by Vlademir (1029 posts) -

I didn't think it was that great. It's fun but not as good as the other Battlefield games.

#25 Posted by Shade (120 posts) -

I played the demo and didn't really think much of it. I think it was mentioned in the 1up show that the enemy AI finds out where you are way too easily, and I totally agree. Even if I was hiding, the enemies would know where I was and start shooting at me. Made things very difficult. Personally I'm going to stick with cod4.

#26 Posted by Gen_Warbuff (158 posts) -

I don't feel this game is underated at all, what bugs/flaws are you talkin about? I can't stop playing it.

#27 Posted by Seppli (10251 posts) -

I beg to differ. Multiplayer is a blast. I guess, if you don't play it online, you will never get the 'goods' of BF:BC. Singleplayer is merely a very elaborate tutorial. At least, that's what it was to me. Clocked in 4d of multiplayer playtime  already. It only gets better! Can't stop playing until I get to be the Nr.1! Just pick up a XBOX live gold sub and play it online. It's full of win. I guess, that's what's in those crates...  100% PURE WIN!

#28 Posted by calf_exercises (858 posts) -

yer, i wasnt supper impressed by it. In my review i talked a little more in depth of what i thought of it but the main thing is that it was a bit rough arround the edges but if you go into it with low expectations you will be pleased

Yeah, that happens to me all the time hehe. "Just one more round". :P

That's doesn't really prove anything.  A review is an opinion thus some people will disagree with it, always.

I think it's great game. Really deserved the rating it got.

#32 Posted by Subway (971 posts) -

It's ok, worth playing, but nothing special really. The singleplayer is really repetitive and rather boring, and the multiplayer only has one game mode, and doesn't have an over abundance of maps, leading it to become dull  pretty fast as well.

Nope. Awesome game.

Yea to me it felt like Jeff gave it a 5 because it had tons of explosions =P

What's that got to do with the subject ? He is talking about Bad Company, fastesttruck.
#36 Posted by kmdrkul (3476 posts) -

For me, the game is fun, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a "good" game.  A five-out-of-five is a bit high for this game, I'd give it four or maybe four and a half.  I've only taken a few steps in Multiplayer and I've yet to beat SP yet, but I've not seen any bugs.  The games character models look good, but there is an overall lack of variety in both buildings and the way buildings crumble.  The strange constant haze that covers the screen is only noticeable in a couple of instances (particular when you are looking over vistas, etc) and the tank drives like garbage.  Other then the small flaws that I pointed out, the game is still really damned fun at the end of the day, but just slightly undeserving of a 5/5.

Agreed. I loved the game when I rented it but I just didn't have the money to buy it at the time.
#38 Posted by Systech (4078 posts) -

You just need to know that Jeff likes to blow shit up so that's definitely a plus for him.

#39 Posted by Quadrifoglio (816 posts) -

I absolutely love the game.

#40 Posted by MB (11973 posts) -

I played the demo and thought this game was junk.  I hate to compare it to Call of Duty 4, but compared to that game, the shooting and controls in Bad Company felt like crap.

That's because it's completely inferior to BF2.
#44 Posted by CactusWolf (539 posts) -

BF:BC was terrible.

#45 Posted by jakob187 (21642 posts) -

Funny thing:  I absolutely 100% HATED the demo.  Couldn't stand it.  I wrote the game off strictly because the single player portion seemed to have stupid ass AI and barely any enemies anywhere.  The multiplayer was something I didn't really play much during the demo, but it seemed too slow for me.

Then we got the game at work, and I plugged it in.  The single player still isn't my favorite...as I still feel kind of the same way about it as I did from the demo.  However, the multiplayer was pretty in-depth for a console BF game.  The graphics in the game are fucking gorgeous, and I really think Frostbite is one of the top three engines for consoles on the market right now.  The unlocks were all well-balanced out, the Gold Rush mode was fun (although people complained about it being the ONLY mode...yet failed to realize that BF2 only had ONE mode too), and the most impressive thing to me was just how much fun it is to blow shit up!!!  Sniper in the attic pissing you off?  Blow out the wall and fuck him up.  Bunch of guys camping inside?  Blow out the wall and fuck 'em up!  I loved it!

Is it the BEST multiplayer out there?  No, but it's solid multiplayer...miles above what Modern Combat had.  I dug it.

Trying to compare a game built from the ground up for PC with use of a 108-key standard keyboard to a game built from the ground up for a console with a controller = fail.
Instead of trying to compare the game to BF2, hold it on its own merit.  I love BF2...2142...1942...Vietnam...and hated Modern Combat.  Bad Company, imo, is a good game...and of course, there will be plenty of people that don't like it...you included.  Trying to use a comparison a PC game to a console game when it not a direct port, however, is a bit unnerving to read on more than a few posts.

And yes...Jayge...I singled your post out because, well, you're special, man.  = D
