Yep, you are that topic title right. Famitsu, one of the most popular video game magazines in Japan, gave Bayonetta a perfect score. This actually really surprised me a lot. I figured the game was going to be a solid action game but, to be this good? It just baffles me. I'm looking forward to getting this game once it hits stateside next year. I've been looking for an action game like DMC for my 360 for some time now so I will definitely pick this one up.

Famitsu Awards Bayonetta A Perfect Score
Another Kamiya masterpiece awaits :D
Kamiya was not giving the sales pitch when he said this game would raise the bar for action games, everything I've seen and read about this game to date proves that statement and others he has made to be perfectly true.
Everything about Bayonetta is awesome. I cannot wait till the new year.
then don't play it.
Problem solved.
I bet at least one of the Bayonetta haters here play those shitty Rock Band/Guitar Loser games.
You know, maybe every discussion on this game should be prefaced by "it's the Devil May Cry that's not Devil May Cry." It was never meant to be anything else, it's never been described as anything else, and anyone that doesn't like Devil May Cry (specifically Devil May Cry) has no reason to even be made aware of its existence.
On top of that, the demo was so fucking awesome. All right, fine. I'm buying it.
" I bet that cost them a lot of money. Famitsu is known for "adjusting" scores. Just sayin'. "
How are they known for doing what you claim?
How many millions of Yen do you suppose little Chunsoft paid for their perfect 428 review?.
If it's a good enough game for a 40/40 that's cool, but after playing the Demo alone.. I just find that score a little odd :|
Then again they also gave a perfect score to Nintendogs.
So I won't do any judging but keep this in mind... I guess?
I have DMC 4 (? & the only DMC I have played) for the 360 and have only played the opening. It looked really nice, but I thought the battling would get old quick and haven't been back. How would Bayonetta differ from DMC enough to get me in (other than the boobs you speak of, that I am interested in ^-^)?
Not to be ignorant but I guess what is popular there is a hell of a lot different than what people like over here. Like I'm not sure if anyone other than the Japanese would give Nintendogs a perfect score or Monster Hunter Tri a perfect score. Well some people in the west maybe people enjoy those games but I certainly do not.
Have you watched the Quick Look here on GB of the games demo? If not I would recommend it. I definitely thought it would just be more DMC with a chick from the start. After looking at the quicklook however, while some things are of course similar, there seems to be more depth and just way more things to do with the combat. From what you see at least, the crazy hair attacks, as well as picking up weapons off the ground enemies are using. Definitely similar, but not quite the same it seems." Wait, what? 37 is a score worth complaining about?" And they gave Uncharted 2 a 37, right? I mean, Uncharted 2 isn't a perfect game... but Famitsu's a fucking joke. "
Anyway, sweet, their last perfect score was Monster Hunter 3, and they've only given like twelve perfect scores since the beginning.
That's a surprise. Not that I thought the game would be shit or anything but looking at Bayonetta you wouldn't really think it would get a perfect score. It's a good game by the looks of this article and well, good games are good regardless of who makes them. That makes me happy. Still, I have to see what the rest have to say about this.
" 37 isn't a score worth complaining about, on its own. But giving that a 37 and then turning around and giving Bayonetta a 40 is ridiculous. "Isn't Famitsu a japanese magazine? cause that pretty much explains it. Different audience over there, they are know not to be overly fond of western styled games.
" This is from the magazine that gave Nintendogs, Final Fantasy XII and Super Smash Bros. Brawl a prefect score as well, so take it with a grain of salt. "Famitsu themselves have said that developers can have their game recieve a higher score if they wish it, but by doing so will recieve less advertising space in their magazine. Honestly, I have no idea why anyone pays any attention to their reviews. Epsecially when considering the other games they've given perfect scores to, like you mentioned.. things like FFXII, Smash Brothes and Monster Hunter 3 may be good games, but not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I can think of numerous flaws each of them have had off the top of my head.
Bayonetta to me seems to be a fairly generic action game, that seems to be getting attention almost soley because of the main character.
" 37 isn't a score worth complaining about, on its own. But giving that a 37 and then turning around and giving Bayonetta a 40 is ridiculous. "have you played bayonetta yet?
I'll wait till the retail version arrives and they say something.
But incredibly enough this turned out to be a great year for gaming with Batman, Uncharted 2, Prototype, Infamous and now Bayonetta. :D
So I guess we can assume that this game is one of the 12 games that ever paid off their review. And that Nintendo chose to pay off in order to pimp Smash Bros Brawl and Nintendogs instead of something like Mario Galaxy or other DS sellers. And CAPCOM paid off Monster Hunter which sells like hot cakes anyway there instead of a less popular franchise. Okay."Famitsu themselves have said that developers can have their game recieve a higher score if they wish it, but by doing so will recieve less advertising space in their magazine."

Play the demo. It is not Devil May Cry with boobs." 40/40?! For Devil May Cry with boobs?!"
And judging by my experience with the demo, this score seems about right.
" @Jeust said:But it's not always accurate, i also didn't think batman was all that great based on the quick look." @Delta_Ass said:I watched the Quick Look. You should wait. :)
Uh... yeah. Famitsu isn't exactly the most reliable source for honest reviews, which along with them giving perfect scores to Nintendogs, FFXII, and SSBB, doesn't really give me any inkling of how good Bayonetta actually is. And even if it is good, I probably won't get it. I have an active dislike for Devil May Cry, and no amount of sex appeal will convince me to play this game.
" Famitsu has become too loose with their perfect scores lately. I don't hold it in as high of a regard as I used to. "Yeah, they have a total of 12 games that have gotten perfects ever, and 6 came in the last 2 years. They need to go back to it being a rarity. Then again, perhaps the four reviewers actually don't collaborate when coming up with their scores, and all four honestly liked it that much.
" And they gave Uncharted 2 a 37, right? I mean, Uncharted 2 isn't a perfect game... but Famitsu's a fucking joke. "Famitsu is probably one of the farthest thing from a joke in the video game journalism world. If something gets a 40/40, then you know it is crazy good.
Uncharted 2 did deserve a good score for being a good game, but it definitely wasn't the best game and a non-perfect score for it is understandable.
I'll say, I am surprised though. Bayonetta just looked like another action game when I read about it oh-so-long-ago.
" And they gave Uncharted 2 a 37, right? I mean, Uncharted 2 isn't a perfect game... but Famitsu's a fucking joke. "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW
A GAME MEANT FOR A WESTERN AUDIENCE WASN'T RECEIVED AS WELL IN JAPAN AS A GAME WHICH TARGETS THEM WAS!
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW
