What the hell did I just play
It's been covered in other reviews ad nauseum, but allow me to reiterate: this game is batshit insane. No, really. In fact, it was almost too overwhelming at first. Torture attacks? Nonsensical Eastern cutscenes? Cringe-inducing, sexploitative combat? Erotic librarians? It was all too much.
But I soldiered on, and after a few chapters I warmed up to the game in a big way. If I had to come up with some bullets on why you should play Bayonetta besides the fact that it looks and plays great, I'd go with:
- An incredibly deep and satisfying combat system
- A story that, while a little obtuse, gets pretty compelling late in the game
- A lighthearted irreverence that made for a fun and borderline endearing gaming experience
