What is Bethesda Softworks working on?

#1 Posted by Vinny_Says (5709 posts) -

I went to their website and only saw Rage, Brink, Demon's forge(?) and Fallout new Vegas as games "in development". But all of those games are developed by id, splash damage, inxile, and Obsidian. Are they just going to stop working on games and let their purchased studios do all the games from now on? Are they working on sequels to Elder Scrolls? Fallout? Did I miss an announcement?

Hopefully a new bowling game.

@InfamousBIG: ha!! I would actually like to see a new IP even if it's oblivion-like. Maybe set in Africa, or Aztec mexico
#6 Posted by InfamousBIG (3201 posts) -
@blacklabeldomm: Yeah.  I wouldn't mind another TES game, though.  But a new IP like you mentioned would be bueno.

Elder Scrolls V. Wasn't it accidentally confirmed in the synopsis of the new book(which is average, btw)?

Personally i'm hoping for an id tech 5 based elder scrolls. Hopefully quakecon will shed some light on on this question...

@Thegerman: Isn't that being developed by Interplay?
#11 Posted by Kookro (109 posts) -
@Thegerman: Interplay is working on that one.
#12 Posted by MysteriousBob (6272 posts) -
@Thegerman: Not being made by them.

I want Fallout 4. Screw Elder Scrolls, there's enough fantasy RPGs in the world.

I would like a Morrowind remake with pretty new graphics and better AI. Assuming that TES V will never happen.

Will they fix the thing in that game that lets you beat it in 7 minutes?
#16 Posted by Raakill (870 posts) -
@blacklabeldomm: Wouldn't  be Morrowind if they did.

They always deflect when asked about TES.  I think it is one of those poorly kept industry secrets - like Twisted Metal but they are not liars like Jaffe :D - but until is goes official it remains like that.

It has to be an Elder Scrolls game right?  Oblivion was far too successful to just drop the franchise entirely, but they obviously made the right call in postponing development to concentrate on Fallout 3 - I assume that's what happened at least.

There are now two big franchises for that style of RPG and they own both of them.  My guess is a new TES game for next year, but because they are their own competition, they will keep it under wraps until Fallout Vegas is out of the way.

#29 Edited by aaron_sK (22 posts) -

Look at it this way: they took four years between Morrowind and Oblivion, and six years between Daggerfall and Morrowind. It takes a little bit of time to build a game that take you flipping years to finish.

Yeah I remembered thinking the same thing awhile back. It makes me nervous because we haven't really heard much of anything since the last of the Fallout 3 DLC shipped. The real bummer is when they eventually announce it- we'll likely be waiting a year or more after that until it comes out.

but wouldn't it be so awesome if they pulled a xbox360s and said it was shipping the week after. I would litterally shit my pants.
But secrets are poorly kept in this industry so my pants are safe for now

You say you looked at their site, but you didn't bother looking in their jobs listings? They are looking for people familiar with the Elder Scrolls 4 construction set. Take that as you will.

Didn't they use the same construction set for fallout 3?

Like I said, you can take that how you want. Either they are making another Elder Scrolls, another Fallout, or something similar with the same construction set. I always thought they should tackle the Shadowrun universe and make an open world game from that.

I'm sure they'll announce a Elder Scrolls game soon. Then when they do you can start waiting 2 years just to play it. Hopefully they're developing a new game engine to run it.

Bethesda Softworks is actually the name of Bethesda's recent publishing business. It doesn't make games of its own, its just their 3rd-party publisher part. Apparently their in-house developer bit is called Bethesda Studios. It doesnt seem to have its own website but I beleive it is commonly known it is working on a new elder scrolls.

The unanounced but inevitable Elder Scrolls V. That, or a poorly conceived Elder Scrolls MMO meant to compete with World of Warcraft.

It's fun to talk shit about people behind their backs, isn't it? You're an even bigger joke to them, you realize.

They did it first. They think everyone who enjoyed Fallout 3 is a simpleton who cannot appreciated the perfection that was Fallout 1 & 2. One of the posts, referring to the popularity of Fallout 3 said. "Millions of flies can't be wrong, eat shit" Um, yeah. That kind of hyperbolic rhetoric is indefensible. It's one thing to not like a game. Its entirely another thing to believe that everyone who thinks differently from you is mentally inferior.  If a person presumes everyone who disagrees with them is stupid, then they are a bad person. I have no sympathy for them.

Oh dear. Those people. I occasionally post on a Might and Magic forum, and while the clientele there is fairly bitter that New World Computing continues to no longer exist, all while raging against the injustice of all those damn Americans and their shooters and their watered down RPGs (etc, etc.) they don't compare to those guys. Then again, as someone who isn't a huge fan of either of the original Fallout games, I feel no shame in laughing at NMA. However, if someone were to bash on Might and Magic, I might actually have to side with the people I just mentioned. It works both ways, I guess. Then again, Ubisoft hasn't messed with the M&M franchise in quite the same degree as Bethesda did with Fallout. Heroes V was basically just a modernized Heroes III (which of course, led to people complaining that it was too similar. Unpleasable fanbase indeed.)
