So I found some old beyblade with the dumb launcher and was reminded of how dumb this was. My buddy got my into it, he even made me a custom one with all the internal fixings. I even started watching the tv show. My buddy even bought one of those bowls, and we would have like 5 beyblades battle it out, holy crap was that dumb.Do you ever get into this? I feel that this was very short lived is it still around?

I was way way way into it for about half a school year back in elementary school, though I can't remember exactly when. It was still a neat little thing. Apparently people are still into that whole thing, though, which seems super weird.

Hell yeah! Beyblades were pretty huge, at the time, in my primary school, same with Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, and Jackie Chan Adventures trading cards.

That was well past my time for that kind of stuff, but my little brother got into it. It did look kinda dumb, but not necessarily so much that I couldn't see myself getting into them had I been the right age. Fuck, I bought those dumb robot battlers things where you swipe cards to make them do stuff. (Sounded so cool in theory, but man was it dumb.)

I'm pretty sure Beyblade still around, although I think most kids have moved on to other stuff.

Was this show full of "smoking a bowl" puns? If not, there were some serious missed opportunities.

some weird reason I got pretty into it, I bought a ton of those things almost all of the first "generation" ones that came out. There were 2 which for some reason would just destroy all the others with the driger (yea i had to google that up) just flat out destroying fools. The dumbest one had to be an american branded one (trygle) which was just taller than the others and if hit right that shit springed up in the air and did a downward attack. Yea those real life blades were dumb from early on.

My parents wouldn't buy me a Beyblade because they'd had it after Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh and all that bullshit. They probably should've wised up sooner all things considered.

Those things would fuck up your hand if you grabbed them while they were spinning too fast. They're still pretty big with kids, but I don't think there's a tv show anymore.

EDIT: Also, according to popular video game website www.giantbomb.com, it originated as a manga. I would have assumed that the toys came first and everything else was just marketing material, but what the fuck do I know?

I was into them for awhile. Past most of my friends caring. I was really into that first season of the show. Mainly because it has a fantastic English opening theme. I know I had to wake up early to watch it. I think it was on like right after Zoids Chaotic Century which were both on ungodly early in the mourning on my ABC family. I also want to echo the fact that the first Driger was a beast. That was my go to bey. I even imported a couple metal japanese beyblades at some point.

A couple years back my younger cousin was into beyblade. I imparted unto him the secret bey knowledge to always let it rip at a 45 degree angle downwards at the bowl. That just immediately makes any beyblade just savage. He even beat me a couple times once I told him.

Also as someone who watches cartoon network in the morning while I'm getting ready out of tradition. I can inform you that A. children are still into Beyblade, B. children are also still into Pokemon, and C. children are into talking Lego.

It became super popular around here at some point but I have no idea why.
I remember the theme song was kickass (in a dumb kind of way) to wake up too in the morning when it was on TV.
Alarm clock woke me up from my sleep, turned on the TV on the channel I needed, theme song was on, drank my coffe. Theme song ende, turned off the TV and went to work but that's about it.

Hell yes! My whole neighborhood was into it. For like 3 months we would all gather around this old park and battle it out. I had this launcher (Little green one) and for whatever reason it would spin the Beyblade faster than any other, so I would end up just winning every time. I ended up beating everyone in my age group so the kids hunted down a kid in grade 8 (I was in 5 or 6) and I lost to him. This kid was like huge, no doubt having way more muscle than I did.

    Simple times.

Nope I wasn't the right age to get into BeyBlade it seems. Plus by that point Pokemon already had most of my attention. YuGiOh also got me into CCG so I didn't really even really notice BB other than the first episode.

Yeah, I remember buying fake plastice ones because the real ones were too expensive. I also recall you could get metal ones which were more durable/dangerous.

I remember buying crazy Chinese beyblades from the ice cream man when I was in elementary/middle school (I can't quite remember when). I think they spun quicker than the normal ones they sold here, which made them not only more dangerous but also a bit unfair. Also, having the ice cream man sell chips and toys (or anything that wasn't ice cream) threw me for a loop at first but you quickly got used to it.

No. Pokeman, Yugioh, and Digimon (to some extent) were all the rage for me.

There is a show that's on CartoonNetwork I believe. I watched a tiny bit of it once when I had the flu and could not be bothered to change the channel. The dialogue is laughably bad and the constant use of the phrase "LET IT RIP" cracked me up.

Yeah I got into it. I even got some aftermarket weights and actually shattered this kids beyblade at my elementary school... then they banned them... so I ruined it for the whole school. But it was totally worth it to see that beyblade explode.

I also got into the Chinese copycats but apparently the parts I received, the plastic quality broke down a lot faster making them ineffective in the long run.

Right, that's what they were called. I still think the concept of those things are cool, but it would take a lot more to make those things deliver on that concept. I suppose Skylanders is kind of the evolution of those things though.

No I found the idea of throwing spinning things into an arena dumb. Pokemon and Yu-gi-ph were awesome though. That's my brain for you.
