Dunno about you guys but I kinda just groaned alllll the way through nearly all the conferences, as LITERALLY every game was a goretastic, swear-filled shooter.

I was glad to finally see something else, and even more happy that it looks like a narratively-driven, engaging piece of entertainment, not just a quick-thrills shooter.

Gameplay would have been nice. That "demo" they showed was dullsville. Looks cool though.

A lot of shooters and sequels yeah, but its the end of the console cycle. That's kinda what we're in for until the new consoles.

Nothing is certain yet of what that game is, can't say I'm all that interested in them wearing the "supernatural" aspect on the game's sleeve. I preferred it when their games.. end up there. Here's to hoping the dog doesn't eat half the script. But the atmosphere seemed pretty good.

Ellen can "fuck" anytime. IMO. She works for me. But seriously, anything from Quantic is a day one purchase. Loved and platted Heavy Rain.

Maybe if I swap around some words and do a little audio tuning I can have her say something really dirty and then...

I can't say if I like this or not, looks real good and Ellen would be interesting to have in the game, wonder if this will be the same type of game as Heavy Rain was.

@ShalashaskaUK666: This needs to stop bugging me, but what's with this tread of people using the word literally in the wrong context. LITERALLY every game was a goretastic, swear-filled shooter? Sim City, Need for Speed... Is Luigi's Mansion a torture porn game now? Or Paper Mario? What about all those sports games we don't care about? Christ, this is LITERALLY driving me up the wall.

This is what I think too when I saw the video.

Hopefully it won't be the same "action game" like Indigo Prophecy. indigo prophecy looked like it was full of action in videos but when I played it, it was just moving the analog stick in the direction it tell you on the screen and jamming the trigger buttons. Don't get me wrong! I love indigo prophecy but I made the mistake of playing it a month before Heavy Rain came out and was sorely disappointed in H.R.

@Herocide: Thanks for that, I took English class in middle school too. It's not always hyperbole, though. A few weeks ago I found out that some of the local idiots I work with didn't actually know what the word 'literally' meant- it was just a word they've heard people use on TV. Like the guy in this thread earlier- I don't think he was intentionally exaggerating- it's just something people say now, and I've been noticing it more. I don't think you'd argue that people never use the term incorrectly.

Also, and this is the part I'm probably wrong about, but wouldn't it be hyperbole if he said something like:

Dunno about you guys but I kinda just groaned alllll the way through nearly all the conferences, as EVERY game was a goretastic, swear-filled shooter.

I'm not sure the word literally has a place in hyperbole. In the end though, this is just a video game forum, so whatever.

@TooWalrus: I don't disagree that people treat English like shit, but I don't think it's worth being bent out of shape about for stuff that could be taken as hyperbole, whether the person saying it intends to or not. I'd get more upset over people using terms that are flat-out wrong such as "would of", the wrong use of there/their/they're, etc.

Hey look - Don Bluth's mechanically highly engaging Dragon's Lair is back. Only it's by Quantic Dreams - and they've got quite the attitude for doing little more than a QTE-filled techdemo - and it's not even the prettiest game of the show. Oh well - whatever floats your boat.

It's not for me. Glad if you enjoy it though. Truely.

David Cage and his team have pioneer spirit, but true directorial talent? From what little I have seen/played - not so much. They should hire a proper director, and put David Cage where he belongs, promoting and producing this shindig.

It looked like a female super hero game, still it is probably a misconception given Quantic Dreams track record.

After playing Asuras Wrath and seeing how QTE: The Video Game can be done i'm all for more of it. However, this is going to be like Heavy Rain QTE's where you end up doing the most boring stuff ever put in a video game.

I'm going to buy and play pretty much anything Quantic Dream is going to do. People dismiss Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and now Beyond as being "interactive movies" and that's exactly what they are. I love that. It's a format of entertainment I find very engaging. No, the stories haven't been that good, especially when you think about them after the fact, but they have offered me moments of true emotions, unlike 99% of other games.

    Some Heavy Rain spoilers:

I have killed thousands of virtual people in games, but none of them have effected me like killing the poor gun waving lunatic in his apartment. A single shot made me go through more emotions than most entire games. Cutting off you finger made me cringe, feel sick in my stomach and my eyes water from empathetic pain as I pushed the buttons to cauterize the wound...

Then there was the guy I was supposed to kill. When I got the task I thought to myself I'm going to fucking do it, for my son. But when I was actually face to face with the guy I just stared him, unable to pull the trigger. It felt like forever until the game decided that I wasn't going to do it.

I know that many people didn't feel these things, they didn't care and the game must had been a one big boring QTE for them. For me it was a unique and very intense experience. I want more of that.

backed 3000%. i wonder what it is about these games that people find so offensive. i love what david cage is doing with video games. not every one of them has to be an action-packed thrillride; cage dares to juxtapose and pace his moments, and it results in something above what most "normal" games can offer.

@killacam: You are so right. I totally forgot to mention the pacing. Some games really seem to be completely unaware about this key factor in story telling. I have seen so much complaints about "all the boring shit you do in Heavy Rain", but for me all that serve a very important purpose. It establishes a sense of normalcy in the middle of all the crazy stuff that is going on. It makes the characters feel more human and not just the trains in a roller-coaster.

At this point I want to make clear that I'm not trying to convince anyone to like these games, that's not only impossible but also pointless. They definitely aren't for everyone, I'm just sharing my view.
