Sure, these days have almost every game sporting the newfangled 3D, but way back when, everyone had to live with plain old 2D. 2D, or two dimensions, limit the game to scrolling backgrounds, but some games even now make use of this basic concept.
An immature childish person. It wears diapers and whines a lot, much like old folks. Babies are considered cute by most people.
Games that are based upon books or novels.
Games that promote or contain Christian themes.
Christianity is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus. It is also the largest religion in the world.
Cartridges are typically one specific color for a particular console. But, on occasion, a game is released with a different color either for a limited edition, special occasion, or for marketing.
This concept is for games where at least one of the main characters is female.
An industry game design convention that's appeared in many games over the years. The fetch quest involves sending the player out to collect a certain number of items, and return them to complete the quest. A staple of the RPG and Adventure game genre.
Some games allow people to swim. Many, however, have water that hurts or kills the player when entered.
It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto a building, a platform, or a skull, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.
This concept is for games in which at least one of the main characters is male.
Sometimes one playable character just isn't enough.
Game cartridges that are shaped differently from other ones for the same console. While they are more commonly associated with unlicensed games, there have been occasions where these were seen with official releases: mainly ones that incorporate special hardware.
Pixel art refers to digital images composed of visible pixels, drawn with individual pixel-level intent and precision.
These games take the select button literally. Pushing up and down (or any other button) to select an option will do nothing.
A gathering of people who believe in the same higher power(s), and follow the rules laid out by the mortals chosen to be their prophets. Video games generally try to shy away from negatively portraying real religions to avoid controversy, however they make ample use of fictional in-game religions.
Games designed for specific religious communities.
Those creatures that go 'baa' and grow wool on their backs.
Side-scrolling games present the world as viewed perpendicular to the direction the characters are facing on screen. With a heavy focus on lateral movement, objectives are often met by moving from one end of a stage to the other.
A two-dimensional image or animation overlaid into a scene. The foundation of early 2D games, making up everything from props to the player-controlled character.
When a game incorporates trivia questions into it, even if it's not a trivia game.
Sometimes, publishers find ways to release games for consoles by illicit means to get around the console makers' hardware restrictions and licensing policies. Examples of these games include Action 52 and Bible Adventures on the NES.
Player characters that are infants, children, or adolescents.
