Bilbo Baggins first appeared in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit. Bilbo had always had a great sense of adventure, but hobbits were not among the more adventurous races in Middle Earth. However one day a wizard named Gandalf came to the hobbit's home and set off his quest to find a dragon's treasure. On this quest Bilbo encountered enemies such as trolls and the creature Gollum, who was in the possession of the Ring of Power.
