As long as it takes, I guess. I can be patient. As I always say whenever a game gets delayed into another year, there's still plenty of other upcoming releases to look forward to.

Well...for some reason I thought it early 2013 was the release date, so I can't be too mad I guess

I always thought it was a 2013 release anyway so it's no skin off my nose :p

I wonder how far the genius thing gets Ken Levine that he can afford to spend 6 years between games. Entire trilogies have come and gone since his last game.

As far as "if we wait we'll get a better game!"... That depends on what your favorite part of Infinite is. It's not like they're going to use this time to add new narrative or new art. It's purely 'this damn thing doesn't work' time. If the combat and framerate is your favorite part of BioShock, then you'll like the game better.

I'd say that maybe they pushed it to get it on new consoles, but it's not like 2K is not going to put it on 360/Ps3.

Q4 of this year looks a lot less...good. Hopefully E3 announces some stuff.

#8 Posted by ThunderSlash (1726 posts) -

This gives me some time to clear out my backlog. I just hope that this won't become another Duke Nukem Forever. It even has the word "infinite" in the title.

I'm a little bit bummed but hopefully it turns out to be a better product because of it.

I'm really relieved. Bioshock Infinite is a really ambitious game, and when they announced a 2012 release date I was really worried that it was being rushed due to publisher pressure and was going to fall far short of expectations. This gives me some more confidence.

So this will fill Take Two's May release slot instead of whatever Rockstar's next release is. I guess that pushes GTA V to Oct 13.

According to Ken Levine you are talking out of your ass.

Oh, well, I kinda thought it already was a 2013 release - so it doesn't really affect me so much.

#14 Posted by bigsmoke77 (789 posts) -

All the other 2012 GOTY contenders just screamed out "fuck yes."

#15 Posted by Korolev (1707 posts) -

Well, if they don't think it's ready, it's not ready. Usually a studio and a publisher are itching to publish as soon as possible, and if they want more time, I'm going to take them at their word and assume that the game requires more time.

what really? I mean they announced the game in early 2010 and only because they had something concrete to show. I don't see how the announcement of a release 2 years later would make you feel they rushed it when they were working on it since 2007?

Still, I have no problem with this delay. I can barely find time to keep up with all the games anyway ;)

Now I really don't know what to look forward to for the end of the year. I guess this is the year where I go back to my back catalogue?

#18 Posted by Shookems (474 posts) -

Bummed, but Irrational should take all the time it needs with this game.

Pretty much this. I have pretty high expectations for infinite and I'm sure this is a huge relief to a lot of other 2012 Q4 games

#20 Posted by WMWA (1162 posts) -
@mosespippy Nah man. Almost 3 months is a quarter of the year, more than enough time for it to sell its majority. I'd say there's still a damn good chance that GTA will still be chillin' at the end of May
#21 Posted by AngelN7 (2970 posts) -

Man from one side I'm kinda relived one less game for my poor wallet on the other side kinda bummed I was really looking forward to this one , and the GOTY lists got more interesting with one of the clearest candidates out.

#22 Posted by Tennmuerti (8100 posts) -

Wow really?

At this point all the marketing for the game is getting stretched too thin.

#23 Posted by GoofyGoober (937 posts) -

I can wait, I have other games to play anyway. Just make it as great as possible.

#24 Posted by Winternet (8019 posts) -

This can only mean one thing: GTA V October 2012. I'm calling it.

Good. Was worried I'd have to skip it this fall. I can only buy so many games and that was one that was on my chopping block.

Really, he's going to write new stuff, get those art designers generating assets and plug them into new levels ... in a year? Or is he just going to try to get the stuff already written, the designs already made produced and polished to an acceptable level, because that sounds more realistic.

Unless you're referring to the 'maybe they're going to get it on next gen consoles' in which case, obviously I'm speculating. I speculated and then argued against it. No need to get pissy.

This makes GOTY awards a bit more contentious...

So far this year, it's been Journey or Dear Esther for me. No AAA game has impressed me as much. Still need to get around to Fez.

Same here. I HATE it when games have release dates locked during the Oct/Nov/holiday shopping season and won't budge for quality purposes. I've played too many games in my lifetime where I thought "I wonder what it would be like if they had just a few more extra months to work on this?"

I hope nobody bitches about this either because there are always good games to play.

#30 Posted by PenguinDust (12517 posts) -

A bit of a disappointment, but these things happen. I'm sure there will still be plenty of stuff to play this fall.

Absolutely true. Bioshock Infinite is a game I'm anticipating very highly, but I can wait. BI is absolutely an ambitious project, and the last thing I want is for it to suck.

This has less to do with quality of product, new assets being added, beta testing etc. and more to do with not wanting to release at the previous october timeslot, and having to go up against to smaller indie titles called Black Ops II and Assassin's Creed III.

Ken Levine is really bad at spinning PR.

#35 Posted by Svenzon (720 posts) -

Aaaw! That was the only big release I was looking forward to this fall. Oh well, if the game turns out better because of it, it's alright.

#36 Posted by SomeDeliCook (2341 posts) -

Oh for fucks sake.

The game being delayed 4 months means its another 4 months Irrational can spoil parts of the game with their advertisement. I've been avoiding any videos like crazy; revealing all your "hard hitters" seems stupid to me.

#37 Edited by TentPole (1858 posts) -

@Brodehouse:

Ken Levine says:

We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months as our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco.

The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.

I take his comment at face value. Feel free to convince yourself he is only talking figuratively about adding technical polish but realize that you are most definitely making shit up.

#38 Edited by NipCrip66 (125 posts) -

With this & Prey 2 both being delayed to 2013 and no news on Last Guardian there are currently no games that are coming out in the second half of 2012 that I think of as now as 'must buy'. I'm looking forward to a couple like Borderlands 2 but there is nothing I'm particularly excited about. Anyone else got a game that they think is going to be particularly awesome that I might have forgotten about?

#39 Posted by Unchained (1081 posts) -

I was looking forward to Bioshock Infinite, but I can continue to wait a lil longer.

#40 Posted by Zzzleepy (162 posts) -

I'll wait as long as I have to for that game, Ken Levine is god.

#41 Posted by Harkat (1102 posts) -

I had enough games to deal with around October 2012 anyways, so I'm cool.

#42 Posted by Mnemoidian (955 posts) -

Weird. 2012 is turning out to be a weird year. First a bunch of game got delayed out of Q1/Q2 (I know there was several, but I can only think of XCOM right now), now we've kind of got a drought of games right now...

Ah well, we'll still have Borderlands 2.

Looking at my list of "games to watch", I've got Tomb Raider (Q4?), Dishonored(?), Darksiders 2 (August), Planetside 2(??)... and most of those I'm not even sure if they are actually 2012 games :P

Weird year.

I'm really glad that Bioshock Infinite is allowed to be a "When it's done" game, though. Go Irrational!

#43 Posted by Snipzor (3317 posts) -

I'm okay with this, very very okay with this. They get more time to work on something this ambitious, and I get more time to work on university stuff. Everybody wins!

#44 Posted by Hailinel (24791 posts) -

I'm cool with this. What they've shown so far seems to be on the right track, and more time for polish is always a good thing.

Really hope this wasn't done to add multiplayer. I just have a funny feeling that's why the game was delayed.

#46 Posted by JeanLuc (3583 posts) -

I'm of the mind that delaying a game and having the developer take their time is never a bad thing, with a few exceptions of course.

#47 Posted by Cloneslayer (1628 posts) -

ugh fucked video games. Just put me in a coma for 5 years and I'll wake up and go back and play all the good shit at once then do it again.

#48 Posted by MikkaQ (10288 posts) -

Okay, year's done. Let's just do the GOTY awards after Diablo 3 and MP3 next week and we shouldn't miss much.

#49 Posted by Barrock (3533 posts) -

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Now that it's out of my system, I hope they get as long as they need to make it their perfect vision.

My thoughts exactly, doesn't make sense to have two of your major releases competing against each other.
