Giant Bomb's E3 2011 Game of the Show

Posted by Jeff (3660 posts) -

It didn't take much discussion, so I'll keep it short. We've compared notes and decided to name BioShock Infinite as our Game of the Show for E3 2011. I'm sure you've already heard us talking about the game in various articles and podcasts, so I'll spare you the flowery language and instead point you to the interview we conducted with Irrational's Ken Levine during the show last week. It was probably one of my favorite moments of the show, and I'm not just saying that because it allowed me to sit down for a full half-hour.

BioShock Infinite showed extremely well during E3 last week and we're going to sit here and patiently wait for its final release sometime in 2012. Let's hope the final product turns out as well as the gameplay demo being shown behind closed doors at the 2K booth did. I hope that the full demo is eventually released for public consumption, as it really sets up a lot of interesting things about Columbia, its various factions, and some of the major players you'll encounter as you play.

Also, a quick programming note: We'll each be talking about some of the games that stood out to us at E3 over the course of this week, so watch out for that!

Saw this coming, but really looking forward to the game. Particularly after Levine's interview. Thanks for all the great developer interviews/podcasts!

I find this both unsurprising and accurate!

By the sounds of it, a deserved winner.

I have no idea what to expect from this game but I feel like it's going to be something special.

I'm sure that this will be good, but the fact that there was no discussion makes me sad. There was very little exciting news out of this show.

#14 Posted by MikkaQ (10344 posts) -

Wait, that was a choice? Like you had to think about it?

Did I mention I <3 Ken Levine?

Kinda figured it was going to be Bioshock. That interview is the best GB video to come out of E3 also.

#18 Posted by Halberdierv2 (1877 posts) -

deserved winner, I enjoyed what I got out of it.

also, this is the first time Ive seen all the topic posters online at the same time.

If your logo isn't on the box, it's all for naught.

There was a lot of awesome stuff at this years e3 but I gotta agree with the crew. Bioshock infinite has me so hyped. And I never get hyped anymore.

Does anyone create a female character that does not show cleavage? That's above the age of 4- and Below 60. And not a mother character- though that's hardly a rule.
You can say that sex sells, and that it's the original model differentiator post 3D- but still- I'm not entirely sure why.

I really like the thought process and set up of Bioshock Infinite.
I love the fact that they make a world that truly has the depth to back it up.
I wonder what they have in store for the main body of the story?
Will it be mostly driven by the open-world nature?
Too early to tell- though I could see some fun with timewarping.
Looking forward to what they have in store.

It's funny how far this game has come.  I remember the cynicism and skepticism from the crew when this game was announced.   Now it's one of their most anticipated titles.

i remember watching the trailers for the first bioshock and being super hyped, played through it thrice. the atmoshere was fantastic, really felt like you were transported to another time and place.

i'm kinda iffy about the "tears" and the girl's magical powers, i think levine tries really hard in the interview to try to show us that the powers aren't really magic, that there's some kind of internal logic going on, but it still comes off as pure magic to me, maybe when the game itself will be better at explaining.

hopefully Shawn Elliot is doing good work on this, listening to the old GFW stuff really made me think of him as some kind of genius, a sort of demented/chill genius

@Marino: Let's hope it's out by then, but if it isn't, I wouldn't be surprised if it was!

Jeff called it a couple weeks ago on the Bombcast.

Yeah... hmm... I feel the same way, and this has me concern (well, after watching last week's south park about change). The concept of the game sounds great, but so far, I don't care for it at all.

I'm sad that there'll most likely be another whole E3 before Bioshock Infinite is released. But otherwise really looking forward to this one!
