The third game in the BioShock series leaves the bottom of the sea behind for an entirely new setting - the floating city of Columbia, circa 1912. Come to retrieve a girl named Elizabeth, ex-detective Booker DeWitt finds more in store for him there than he could ever imagine.
What do you think the title means?
I think it means the Bioshock name is a recognizable name consumers will be interested in. I have no idea what the Infinite part pertains to.and thats the hook my friend =)
changing your DNA on a biochemical level. thats its a "shock" to your "system". (get it?)what does bioshock mean?
It means they will never, ever stop making Bioshock games. Even when you desperately want them to do so.
I think it's the difference of being trapped in a very confined underwater city and being on a wide open flying metropolis.
In this case though I think the title is in large part a decision brought on by 2K Games, the only real reason this game is named Bioshock is for the brand recognition in the wider market. You can't call it Bioshock 3 without creating an expectation based on Bioshock 1 & 2, so infinite sounds like as good a way as any to suggest the game is a sequel but toally better than a Bioshock 2 or 3, because it's not a number, dog, it's infinite! Similar gameplay elements and themes help justify the title, but at the end of the day those things could be carried forth into a game with a completely different label. Not that I'm complaining, of course, the game is sounding amazing and I daresay labelling it Bioshock has granted Irrational plenty of leeway with 2K.Infinite. that is really attracting to me. Anyway, I wouldn't think too much on it but if I had to guess I'd say maybe it's something to do with Elizabeth's abilities, perhaps the idea of "infinite" possibilities.
The way the characters feel, or the style of gameplay Bioshock Infinite will be. I imagine there will be a character in Infinite that says something like "There's an infinite amount of things we can do! We just have to set our mind to it! MWA MWAHAHAHAAHAHAH!!!!" I just thought that because of all the talk Kevin Levine was saying about how back in the early 1900's people imagined great things and huge opportunities, so new innovations that would seem far-fetched, wasn't in their minds at the time. I'm probably wrong, and it's most likely just going to end up being the most powerful plasmid or individual character. I don't know.
Crap, that was written shitely. :P
let me throw this at you. we now know Elizabeth can open rifts to other dimensions. what if they means infinite possibilities and worlds?
also i just bought Bioshock 2 on games on demand because A. Im lazy and B. i want to play minerva's den
Personally, I'm skeptical about any deeper meaning to the "infinite" part of the name. It feels like they just slapped some random thing onto BioShock that isn't a number so as to indicate that it's not a direct sequel. The word "infinite" is vague enough for people to find their own justification for it if they look hard enough.
And then there's the "Bioshock" part.
Naming issues aside, though, I still can't wait to play this game.
I am absolutely sure it will be a Bioshock game in the end. I'm certain it is intrinsically linked to the first games lore in some way, especially with this dimensional rift mechanic.
I'd guess it's purely a reference to the location being based in the sky and the 'infinite' possibilities the sky city had. Could also relate to Elizabeth's ability to pull things in from other dimensions, periods in time etc.

Yeah, I don't think there's too much thought going into the titles. Which is fine seeing as that effort seems to be going into the actual games.
