The game is now in Early Access on Steam for $20. I played the mod previously but never ended up finishing it. For some reason when they announced it was coming to Steam I didn't really expect them to charge for it. I'm not really against it though, especially if it means that it will finally be finished with some funding.

Black Mesa on Steam Early Access
There was a countdown on http://www.bmrf.us that now has ended with a trailer that you should check out. Imagine that this mod had its first video released ten years ago...
This trailer is only six years old: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G32_q_3es8E
I'll probably buy it because I want to play it and show Valve that people care about the series, question is if I should wait until it's out of Early Access.
They seem to be redesigning the Xen segment and the final encounter so that it is less garbage than the original, but they don't give much info about it and thus don't have any time frame. It would be nice to see highlights of their design docs at least. See at least what they might be thinking on that front. It's kinda hard for me to get behind the idea of them saying "yeah, we're planning on redesigning, but that's all we have to say."
They might list it somewhere else, I haven't really searched around or anything. But they should probably make it more visible from the store page.
I don't know what it was about this mod but I didn't like to so much. I don't think I'll buy it but I'm happy they're gonna be getting paid for it since it was obviously very well made and a lot of work went into it.
Yeah this thing is beyond a mod, it is an HD remake at this point. We live in a crazy world of unfinished games and weird business moves right now but after this sunk in, I was okay with it. If you think about it the reason for delays with Black Mesa almost always involved personal reasons and free time, so hopefully this will finally give them the resources they need to finish this damn thing. They probably should have done it sooner.
I'm not really in the loop on this come to think of it - has there been an outcry about them charging or are people being cool about it?
