Overview
The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 "found footage" horror film that chronicled the plight of three student filmmakers investigating the legend of the Blair Witch in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland. The film is based on the premise that the footage was recovered long after the students had disappeared, providing the only clues to their ultimate, grisly fates. Within the movie are references to the history behind the Blair Witch; events that are examined in more detail in a series of video games that tie into the film.
The games don't take place in the time frame of the movie, but rather at specific points in the past related to the legend of the Blair Witch and the history of Burkittsville. The first Blair Witch game, Blair Witch Volume I: Rustin Parr, also features a crossover with characters from Nocturne, a previous game developed by Blair Witch developer Terminal Reality.
