The latest from the bomb shelter...

I think the casual games are fun enough to play with groups of friends.

As long as there is a new Mario Party installment, I'll be fine.

Probably won't sell my Wii. I'm still working through their "core" games from their first round of releases, and there are other games coming out for it that I'm interested in, so I will keep it at least until I finish those up.

The Wii doesn't appear to have a dearth of good games coming out in the future.

Awesome question of the day, by the way. MAKE IT LONGER NEXT TIME!

I still don't know why people still think the Wii is a core gamers system.  Its a family friendly entertainment device that's all it is,  yeah sure, maybe once and a while there will be a game thats geared to the core gamer demographic but for the most part the Wii is not for them.   With all the money Nintendo is making on the Wii don't plan on them to change strategy anytime soon.

I am keeping mine.  Its a fun system to play with girls, friends, and family

Eh

I already bought it at launch, might as well keep it,

I believe people with less money will sell it, does which money isn't an issue will probably keep it.

I have a 360 also, having a Wii makes it possible to have the little brats use that one (plus! they prefer it!) and keep them away from the 360.

Although I can imagine bad tidings for Nintendo if the plan truly is what you guys have reported...

My parents bought the Wii for my brother and I for Christmas, so I definitely won't sell it because they probably wouldn't let us. However, I definitely won't be using much of it.

I think I've finally decided to hold off on a Wii until next year when I get a job. When I do get a Wii, it'll be for Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros.

After I beat these games, It'll probably collect dust, or I'll let my family of casual gamers play it.

Nintendo always takes at least 2-3 years to release good games, and they've always released games aimed at a more casual audience as well as "hardcore" games. As far as I can tell, people are just overreacting and expecting an awesome game every 4 months or so. I think that selling your Wii is a bad decision, because odds are you might want it again, so why not hang onto it? We really don't know what's around the corner so...might as well wait and find out.

My wii currently gets no play, and it currently resides as a 250 dollar usb hub to recharge my 360 headset and controllers, and my ps3 controllers and my bluetooth headset.
Isn't it odd how i paid 250 dollars for this thing at launch and it has seen playtime from about 4-5 games and thats it?

Virtual console isn't worthwhile im not gonna pay the asking price they want for old hat none updated emulated games i can get them online for free or i can go to a used game store and get them for pennies.

And in retail games there just aren't any worthwhile wii games....So it will remain an usb charging hub forever i fear, i think i will sell it sometime soon.

Why would I sell my console right when they say core games are in development? That's easily the stupidest thing I've heard all month.

Most of the franchises I normally enjoy have already had their Wii installments, which makes me really glad to have bought this system. Sure, it lacks some power and deeper games, but the future looks promising. Besides, casual games are actually very good if you are a casual gamer (like me), and I mostly play with friends...besides, if I sold my Wii, in what system would I play my extensive GC library?? :P

Well, I'm definately not selling it, but I can honestly say that I haven't even turned it on since I beat Mario Galaxy.  My hope right now is for third party titles and Virtual Console.  So far I have seen literally NOTHING that excites me about the Wii through the end of the year and well into '09.  I am hella disappointed to say it, but I think my Wii will be dormant for quite a while.

Oh well, I haven't beaten Super Paper Mario or Metroid Prime 3 yet, so they will have to hold me over on the Wii for the next year or so.  sigh.....

I'll keep mine and i'll also get a 360 to go along with it to fill the gap between now and the next major Nintendo Wii game release.

Almost. I've almost had it with Nintendo. Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and Brawl were all great games! But, why aren't we seeing any new franchises. I refuse to believe that it's because they are not creative enough. They've just gotten used to being able to put out the next game in their already established franchises and get by with the hardcore gamers. If they are going to rest in that, they need to get on it because all I'm seeing right now is what Ryan would call "waggle" motion control games. It's brainless gaming, and I'm through with it. My PC has been getting more use then my Wii, what does that say? You decide.

It lets me play games with my kids, and it lets me play the Nintendo franchise games I love.  Anyone who ever thought it was going to offer much more than that was mistaken going in.  Love it for what it does, don't hate it for what it don't.

Bah. It looks like I'll be waiting another 24-36 months before considering the Wii worth purchasing again.

...considering being that focal word, there.

Which do I play the least? About 99.9% of you will guess it right.
Which do I play the least? About 99.9% of you will guess it right.

There was a day when I actively defended Nintendo's stance and while I understand their position is good for the future of the industry, it's hard to take an "I told you so" from Sony and Microsoft fanboys. I mean, I skipped school to reserve the damn thing; I remember hopping over the fence around my high school gleefully grinning over the fact that I'd be guaranteed a Wii on day one.

When I got the system, nothing could explain the intense amount joy I had when I popped in Trauma Center: Second Opinion and the even greater times I had playing Wii Sports with my friends and family. Those moments may be few and far in between, but it's those memories just happen to be much more memorable than killing some strangers in Call of Duty 4 or harvesting a Little Sister in Bioshock. This may sound sappy and a likely story, but it's the heartfelt truth.

In the meantime, games like Mad World say hello.
In the meantime, games like Mad World say hello.

I have a huge backlog of games dating back to two years ago, and I'm still picking up Tales of Vesperia and Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice later on this week. People can complain about the lack of game all they want, but personally I'm kind of thankful that Nintendo is, while unintentional, giving me some slight breathing room. Sure, we always want more hardcore games, but the question is do we really need them?

I'm not wholefully regretting my purchase of the console in the slightest sense, but I do regret buying into games such as Mario Kart Wii or Wii Fit. I've yet to pick up certain games like Boom Blox or No More Heroes, but as it stands, I'll be lending the console to my brother when he goes to college and will most likely be missing out on those. I like the direction Nintendo's going in with their inclusive scheme, I just wish it didn't consume the entirety of their being. But, if it'll take two to three years to get the games that I actually want, I'll gladly wait. So yes, I'm allowing Nintendo the chance to "pan" it out.

I was just recently able to get my hands on a Wii and have not been able to exhaust the extent of Nintendo's "core" franchise games by the slightest. In fact, I'm only half way through my second Wii game, Twilight Princess. I wouldn't be interested in these games if they took 18 months to develop, and I am completely open to new franchises that appeal to my demographic, should Nintendo go that route. Let's face it... how much Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong and Starfox can you stand playing over a span of  20 years?

I don't think the "core" gamers need to worry due to the fact that there are plenty of high profile 360/PS3 and PC games (c'mon, you've got to own at least one other gaming capable system than the Wii if you're reading this) coming out soon. That is unless they're one of those platform fanboys of course .

Also, I think I'll be keeping my Wii forever, like all my consoles back to the NES.

EDIT: It also seems fit (pun not intended) to mention the Wii Motion Plus controller accessory. We could see some new franchises from Nintendo that require the precision of this peripheral. I think I'm excited about it because I don't know its limits yet.

My first blog post on this site, day 1, basically said the same thing. After E3 I had to throw up a big WTF for the E3 press conference. At the time, I was debating whether or not to ditch my Wii, if only to save space.
So last week I went ahead and got rid of it, and pre-ordered the sweet, sweet fall lineup for the other two consoles. After reading this article, I have to say I'm totally stoked about that decision.

Yeah, we call that cognitive reinforcement son...
