Source Engine Shooter "Bloody Good Time" Headed To Steam, XBLA

Developer Outerlight, in collaboration with Ubisoft, has licensed Valve's Source Engine to create their own not-so-serious and cartoon-inspired shooter this Fall. Bloody Good Time, as it's being called, will be an online-focused competitive romp that appears to be attempting to capture the hearts and minds of "irreverent" FPS enthusiasts with its own breed of ridiculous melee and shooter action.

Built for up to eight players simultaneously, Bloody Good Time is being suggested to focus more on mayhem-causing weaponry than your typical range of guns. In the press materials, it's mentioned that players will be able to use items like frying pans and remote-controlled rats in addition to the normal arms like the one you see just below.

If you're wondering why the characters look like they do, it's because the game is riffing on B-Movie actors and sub-AAA movies. In fact, the entire game takes place on a Hollywood movie set with silly locations such as Vegas hotels and summer beach houses. The sets also come with actors who dress like, well, bunnies, clowns, and starving security guards.

Not much more is being announced about Bloody Good Time right now, but it seems possible that it will at least have some sort of campaign mode--the press materials mention specifically that the online portion is just an "option."

Want to see more of BGT? Look no further.

#5 Posted by Sil3n7 (1178 posts) -

Hoo boy. The source engine is still truckin...

#6 Posted by fedorajay (405 posts) -

Uhg. The only silly FPS game I want to hear about is TimeSplitters 4.

Looks interesting, any word on a price?

I hate the art direction on this game, it reminds me of Postal.

#9 Posted by The_Philosopher (570 posts) -

This could be cool, I like the art style.

Ubisoft is getting into the downloadable space real hard...

Outerlight is the indie developer behind "The Ship" another Source engine game. Oddly enough Ubisoft is publishing their new game, while Ubisoft internally develops Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer which a direct ripoff of the gameplay behind The Ship

I wonder if there is a bigger connection between Outerlight and Assasin's Creed Brotherhood MP.

A spiritual successor to The Ship?  I'm OK with this.

I agree, Source is still looking damn good imo. Game sounds kinda cool to boot.
#14 Posted by cassus (350 posts) -

The Source engine is starting to look kinda old and crappy.. Slapping toonish shaders on it is the only way it doesn't look like a pile of crap, but even with that, it looks pretty bad.. And the games are pretty meh as well.

seems kind of similar to the square enix game that was just announced... also a girl with pyro's flame thrower??? is this confirmation that the Pyro is a girl?

#16 Posted by Izzy_sinz (12 posts) -

Sounds like a laugh, count me in

#17 Posted by Peewi (410 posts) -

The Ship was neat. Hopefully this will have a more lively community.

These are the guys that made "The Ship".

I really should reinstall that game it is amazingly fun

There are plenty of "stupid" shooters out there. I'd have hoped that the people who made The Ship, could do a little better than this.

I might not say the only one, but I definitely agree with the sentiment.

Dude! I've lost hope for that game ever coming out. Those are some of my favorite games....sigh....

...I'll wait for the quicklook and the Giant Bomb stamp of approval. If there is one.

Yeah, now that you mention it. Gun LOCO i think it is called. Looks really mediocre, and so does this i must admit.

that's been confirmed for a while now i thought. if i recall correctly even in the game when it recommends you try out the pyro it refers to her as, well, her.

Ubisoft + PC = not something I really want to deal with.  I know it says Steam, but I still fear it.

I can agree with that. I am kinda pumped about Serious Sam Second Encounter coming to XBLA. I can't really think of any other silly FPS games, though.

@TheHT: Actually sometimes it says her and sometimes it says him. Its Random.

Actually it hasn't been confirmed at all through out all of TF2 they have been keeping Pyro's gender ambiguous. Yes it does say "try her out" but it also says "try him out"

@cassus: Left 4 Dead 2 doesn't look crappy at all.
#35 Posted by W0lfbl1tzers (1787 posts) -

I find it strange that people are already saying it looks mediocre seeing any video or knowing anything about it other then that it is a shooter. I love the internet.

#36 Posted by Labbo94 (155 posts) -

Neat idea... With solid gameplay, good humor, and the right sort of attitude (thinking TF2 or MNC), this could be pretty cool.

Ahhh, pretty sneaky Valve.

I'll stick with Tf2.

Sweet TF2 with bunnies.

#42 Posted by BagSquad (127 posts) -

this looks terrible

#43 Posted by jakob187 (21662 posts) -

I'm always down for a game that shares the Tex Avery cartoon styling with some FPS action, especially on XBLA!

#44 Posted by Deusoma (3004 posts) -

I would only be interested in a multiplayer-only game (especically a multiplayer-only game that looks like that) if it was free.

#45 Posted by PISTOLcm (126 posts) -
@Ryax: No. It doesn't. Looks a hell of a lot better than a comparable zombeezie-fest known as Dead Rising 2. Hell, it looks a lot better than many games out there.

Perhaps not so much if you're talking about the 360 version, but really, who cares about Source games on the 360? <_<
#46 Posted by Nytrik (153 posts) -

I don't get it.

sigh... I'm getting too old for gaming.
#50 Posted by GGear0323 (11 posts) -

damn, can't people wait at LEAST a little bit before writing stuff off? you have literally seen 5 screenshots, no video, no idea of how it will play, no real information about anything other than it has odd weapons and looks like 'this'. i am interested in anything new, but i can't really say anything until i see more.
