Installing the Xbox 360 version now - I got the Deluxe Vault Hunter's edition.

Will come back to this thread periodically this evening and throughout the weekend and answer questions that I can, I'll try to avoid and/or mark spoilers where appropriate.

Please don't ask subjective questions like these, I can't really answer them:

Is it fun?

Will I like it?

Is it better than x?

I thought the first Borderlands was ok (specifically I didn't think the shooting was that good). Should I get Borderlands 2?

#3 Posted by RandomInternetUser (6779 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

Are the enemies more fun and less repetitive to fight than the first game? I loved it other than that.

How many guns must a man collect, before you can call him a man?

Also do the quests still feel very mmo-ish?

#5 Posted by ShiftyMagician (2112 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

You probably have to play it a bit before you can answer this, but how is the music direction in this game? Is it still similar to the first Borderlands or is there a lot more of a different sort of genre music? I thought I heard in the QL of this game some electronic sounds indicating a change of music style though not close to dubstep like in the trailer.

What is the new intro song?

cuz CTE was soo bradass in the first game

#7 Posted by MikeGosot (3227 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

How the quests feel? Do you need to grind very much to attain high levels(This will take a while to answer.)? Is it less repetitive? DO you like it more than Borderlands 1? What class you're using and why?

Thank you very much, @MB

Is there more dialogue, like talking with random NPCs in towns?

I . . . very much like what you did there.

First noticeable change other than the game looking and running amazing...you no longer have to press X in order to pick up money that is on the ground.

I wanna ask, how come you have the game early? I'm jealous.

The same goes for ammo that is on the ground. Stuff in chests is still picked up the traditional way.

While this is certainly a welcome change, I played enough original Borderlands to be a well-oiled X-pressing machine, incorporating it seamlessly into all movement.

Why do bad things happen to good people in the Borderlands...2?

#22 Posted by B0nd07 (1638 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

Are bullets still pretty slow (specifically with snipers at range)? Perhaps the one thing I found most annoying in the first game was the enemy's ability to duck and weave out of the way of my shot the second I pulled the trigger of my sniper, even though they were standing still and not alert.

I'm only just starting the game, but even "normal" enemies are a lot more fun to fight. For instance, Psychos just don't run straight at you, they dodge left and right, roll, stuff like that. I'm not sure about variety of enemies overall but the ones I have encountered seem more interesting.

I told Pitchford I was going to ban his secret forum account unless he sent me a copy.

I haven't noticed a difference from the first game in bullet speed, I'll watch out for this though.

Regarding Badass Rank - as you complete challenges in the game, of which there are many, you earn tokens. These tokens can be spent to increase stats such as reload speed, fire rate, shield recharge delay, stuff like that. Each token spent seems to grant a % increase in the stat you pick. The first rank in fire are was 1%, then .7%.

do the same people that voice the 4 original valut hunters voice themselves again in BL2?

Only reason i ask is because mordici sounded so different in the giantbomb QL

Haven't encountered them yet.

  • I'm playing as the commando: You receive 100% of the XP you would have gotten if you killed the enemy yourself when your turret kills something.
  • Also - no more "picked up 20 smg rounds" spam.
  • also - looks like weapon proficiency levels have been removed in favor of the badass ranking system.

Is Crazy Earl still crazy?

Real question: How are the first set of enemies that you encounter?

They're certainly better this time around and not as MMO-like as the first game, but if you really hate MMO quests then I don't think these are going to be much better for you.

Thank you very much, @MB:

I can't answer the leveling thing yet, I only just hit 7 on my Commando. I picked it because the utility of the turret seemed interesting and I just got off of playing a Siren in the first game and wanted to try something else.

It does seem less repetitive than Borderlands 1. There seems to have been a lot more effort put into the quest narrative this time around, and of course the environments are a lot more varied, colors brighter, and the game is more polished. Also it is doing a good job of carrying me from one area to the next so far...but again it's early.

MB, did the disc and the container smell a little bit like heaven and sex all at once? Did angels from on high sing when you put in the game?

I heard that you only get one Golden Loot Key for all your characters. Is this true and if so, have you dared to use yours yet?

#33 Posted by Sanity (1506 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

What yea think of the loot so far?

Also, how are rocket launchers? Im really hoping there better this time around because, you know... there rocket launchers...

#34 Posted by DarkHeroZark (175 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

Haven't used any DLC codes yet, the store doesn't appear to even be up at this point.

The loot seems better and more varied this time around. At level 8 I've already found several elemental weapons and two new character skins. I'm also finding bits of Eridium currency that can be used to purchase character upgrades, but I haven't even gotten to a store where I can do that yet. I haven't seen a single rocket launcher yet, but I'm anxious to try them...the rocket launcher on the vehicle is about the same as it was, worthless.

Missions have bonus objectives and never did before.

Sometimes when turning missions in, you get to choose the reward you want.

How does the story seem right out of the gate? More of it? Deeper? Compelling characters?

Yes, all of that, and more voice acting and more voiced characters.

Well yeah...I've really only just started but it's everything the first game was and more, with more stuff that I liked and less I didn't. If you liked Borderlands then this is a must buy.

@MB: Based on loot you've come across so far, is loot varied? I remember them saying they want players to be able to pick up any sort of weapon and use it, so I'm wondering how fluid that it.

Also, How many skags have you killed so far :D

#42 Posted by White (843 posts) - 8 months, 5 days ago

I want you to show me.

It's more varied than it was. Also weapon proficiency levels have been removed, so I can see how the developers intended people to use more different weapon types. So far I've used almost everything I've come across almost equally, from pistols to submachine guns to shotguns. Then again I haven't really explored the skill trees much and have only been putting points into my turret.

Well I found a quick change station which allows you to change your appearance using faces and skins you have unlocked. Also found the upgrade vendor where Eridium currency is used - this is where you upgrade your storage capacity for ammunition and your backpack.

I played the first one 100% solo, twice, and had tons of fun. Your mileage may vary.
