Borderlands 2 Is Officially a Thing

Posted by Alex (2293 posts) -

Guess what, guys? There's going to be a second Borderlands game.

2K officially announced today that the sequel to Gearbox's breakout action role-playing shooter is very much in development, and will be headed to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in fiscal 2012 (translation: sometime after April next year).

In addition to the basic announcement, Game Informer revealed Borderlands 2 as its September cover exclusive, dropping a few details on what we can expect from the sequel.

Don’t expect just a couple bazillion more guns this time around. Gearbox is introducing new and more diverse environments, smarter and more powerful enemies, and an improved mission system capable of delivering a better story.

Borderlands 2 will get its official live debut to the world later this month at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and will also make its way to PAX Prime this year. Anyone heading to either of those shows that feels like letting out a big, honking squee of excitement right now will be forgiven for doing so. Just, you know...clean up your mess afterward, okay?

God, I can't wait. I own Borderlands and the DLC for both 360 and PC and I still feel like I need more. So this is awesome.

I must have played the game wrong, because I thought it was one of the best single-player FPSes I've ever seen.

Duder no offense but Playing Boderlands solo is like . . . Well its just a bad idea!

I really liked the first one and played solo through it more than once (a rarity for me).  I just hope it's different enough from the original and from Id's Rage to reignite my interest in the franchise.

The game was created from the ground up to be played with others, this sort of criticism ain't fair.

Having said that, I think it was perfectly fine as a single player experience.

Better classes, loot types, and environments thats all I'm asking for.

#18 Posted by ClaritySam (594 posts) -

The original was a a solid title with a lot of potential for greatness, I'm pretty excited to return to Pandora.

...pardon me while I freak the fuck out.

Well I don't have others to play it with, so what's wrong with me wanting them to improve the experience for single player? I didn't think playing solo was fine and it was immensely boring. If developers will let players play single player, then they also need to take the time to make sure that their game is fun in that mode. If they don't want to support it, then they should just disable all players from playing single player.

Can we cut the whole "This is a thing" now? It's really fucking annoying.

There was a lot of news being spread via Eurogamer that it was to be announced, this was all yesterday.

This makes me very happy!

Another reason to get Borderlands. Why can't you just make the GOTY Retail Version under $25?!

#26 Posted by SeanFoster (878 posts) -

I;m not surprised by this news, but it's still delightful.

@BadOrcLDR: I think I shall freak the fuck out with you, if you don't mind.

90% of the time I spent with the game was playing solo, mostly because I always had really bad lag issues online for some reason. I still had a blast with it.

I would totally play a better Borderlands.

All I need is more Guns and areas. I think I had 100+ hrs in the first game

#34 Posted by avantegardener (1130 posts) -

Jeez, I forgot I owned the 1st one, that's how much I played it, not very engaging for my money. Maybe this will be better.

THIS.  I would like it if Borderlands 2 was better than the first one for solo players.  Maybe the first one was a great game for people who have dedicated playgroups on XBL or PSN, but trying to get into random games with random XBL douche-turds really turned me off to the first one.
#37 Posted by laserbolts (5331 posts) -

I know this is against the popular idea among the hardcore that Borderlands is one of the greatest things ever... But by the time I was finished with that game I was so sick of it that I'll probably never go back to it again. And unless the sequel is far different I'll probably have to pass.

#40 Posted by Azteck (7449 posts) -

I COULD LITERALLY NOT BE MORE EXCITED. FUCK.

#41 Posted by JDW519 (148 posts) -

I'm more than willing to spend hours upon hours in Pandora again, one of my favorite co-op games in a long while

#42 Posted by MachoFantastico (4789 posts) -

Oh hell yeah!

Excited!

#43 Posted by krossmojination (17 posts) -

Dear Gearbox,

Please auto-scoop loot. And include a button to buy max ammo. Oh and a shared vault that you can swap gear across your characters.

Besides those minor things, Borderlands was quite possibly the perfect game, for my money.

#44 Posted by mracoon (4972 posts) -

More Borderlands can only be a good thing.

Slightly off-topic but it's weird that Eurogamer had a story that Borderlands 2 would be at Gamescom, which they got from an unnamed source, and a lot of games journalists and even Randy Pitchford were hating on them for it even though it was totally true.

Yep.

On topic: Borderlands was a pretty dull. I think at this point basically any loot-driven RPG is just a big old turd to me though. I'm not at all excited about Diablo 3, since I feel the whole genre lends itself to a repetitive and empty experience.
