My gun leveled up?

So I had found a legendary SMG, Hefty Baby Maker, req. 19. I've been using it for a while now, mostly because the reload/throw does a buttload of damage.

Something weird just happened though.

I opened up my inventory after a pretty big firefight, and I see another Hefty Baby Maker sitting there, this one req. 25, with way better stats minus fire damage. I'm level 27. I still have both guns, the 19 and the 25. I don't remember picking up anything orange during the fight. Google tells me nothing about Legendaries upgrading themselves, and I refuse to believe I got the exact same rare drop and didn't notice picking it up.

Did the game bug out somehow? Or, do legendaries level up along with you if you use them a lot? Or, did I inadvertently dupe my gun (even though the properties are different) and scale it up to my current level?

Any help would be appreciated.

There are a bunch of unique guns in the game that have certain properties that usually go along with their name. There is one that makes annoying sounds when it's fired. Another that inexplicably has infinite ammo and does not require a reload. I'm willing to bet that it is a feature of your Heafty "Baby Maker" that it produces offspring.

I love how the Bane doesn't attract enemies or spawn Badasses or something really difficult (what I expected + what the mission dialogue suggests)... it's just a super fucking annoying gun.

I just got a gun with a similar sounding name called "Brisk Baby Maker" at level 12. It dropped off some named bug in the area with Tiny Tina. The red text says, "Who's a widdle gunny wunny!!!"

It's annoying that it explodes on reload, but maybe it will also have a kid gun with more power when my level 12 commando starts to use it.

@Th3irdEye: I actually considered that, but it somehow it seemed super unlikely. Now it kinda makes more sense than any other scenario. Pretty weird property though, if true.

@golguin: The explode on reload is honestly the best thing about it. Try firing off one round and then throwing it at an enemy. Crazy damage.

You lose all your ammo remaining in the gun if you reload though.

Infinite bullet guns are the best guns just FYI

I like how they are called the patriot. Nice MGS3 nod.

Also there is one called something Deliverence and it's description is "Kiki's got a shot gun." A reference to Kiki's delivery service. It also flys around like a broom.

That is unique. The the baby maker alone flies, very good job game. Keep my eyes open....

I have the hefty baby maker legendary as well, I got it at lvl 26 and am now 33 on ng+, mine is still lvl 26. mine has the following

  • +20% reload
  • explodes on reload
  • "whos a widdle gunny wunny"

i haven't seen any new guns or lvls from it but it does often do double gun grenades for tons of dmg, i barely shoot it, dmg now blows but the grenade dmg is still 12k+
