"Working through a Borderlands 2 review, should be up tonight. Finding it sort of difficult to articulate my feelings on the game."

Not that four is a bad score, plenty of games I love have hit four. (Maybe it'll be lower, who knows) Temper your expectations here so that the comments aren't full of BS. I'll gladly eat crow if the game gets five stars.

The comments will be full of BS anyway.

But honestly I didn't expect 5 stars even though Jeff has made it known how much he loves the first one

The obsession some people have over review scores is dumb. This thread is dumb.

Exactly! It's the words that matter. And Jeff's twitter message may not necessarily be negative. Sometimes it's hard to put your thoughts as words.

8.8?

#8 Posted by MadLaughter (206 posts) -

I agree that people who obsess over stars are probably going about it the wrong way. And that the words are what matters. But there will always be those kinds of people, and I don't think I have what it takes to change their way of thinking. So, instead, maybe I can temper their expectations a little bit.

I kinda got this from the launch trailer. So badly edited. I've generally found the quality of trailers to be indicative of overall game quality. Not always of course, but in general.

I'd describe the borderlands 2 trailer as "not extremely well put together, but there's lots of cool stuff and I still want to play it". That seems about how I'm going to feel about Borderlands 2, and it's how I felt about Borderlands 1.

Hell yeah! Jeff review score will be whatever the hell I said it was!!

Anything less than six stars will be a disappointment.

@MikeGosot: @MikkaQ: 5 stars is very Fing important...to me, all my Brad bucks are on it. I knew I should have gone four like the first review but they were so fired up I thought the second would surpass the first.

#20 Posted by MadLaughter (206 posts) -

@TruthTellah: I was going to say "Hahah, for some people, this is the truth." Then I saw your username.

Why do you care so much?

I am excited for the game. I do not care if he gives it 1 star. Why would it matter?

Ugh... Making a link "for the lazy" when you could just quote the entire text is just as fucking lazy.

Working through a Borderlands 2 review, should be up tonight. Finding it sort of difficult to articulate my feelings on the game.

See? It's not that hard.

I really wish GB dropped ratings altogether. That way, people might actually read the damn reviews and form their own opinions. I'm guessing that's unlikely though since they probably have to stick ratings on them for commercial or legal reasons or whatever.

#24 Posted by musclerider (596 posts) -

If Jeff doesn't give it five stars I might as well set my Xbox on fire.

#25 Edited by Mirado (1057 posts) -

@The_Laughing_Man: I care if he gives it one star because that would mean something had either gone seriously wrong technically or that at some point every gameplay element broke down or diverged wildly from his expectations.

4 or 3 stars? Won't give a shit. That just implies either minor detracting flaws or (in the case of 3 stars) a letdown as in more of the same, which is fine by me. But 2 stars or even just one? Something hath gone wrong and I'm curious as to why.

Either way, I'm preloaded and ready to find out in 5 hours.

Then people would argue " well then he means its 90 " or what ever.

I was being sarcastic about 1 star.

Yeah, four is like, the "safe" option. BUT THEY SEEMED SO HYPED!
#29 Posted by eroticfishcake (7792 posts) -

@The_Laughing_Man: If they're gonna think like that then that's their problem. I won't be paying attention to those comments anyway because they're not the ones who wrote the review anyway so what would they know, eh?

I don't think the first Borderlands was amazing by any means. It was just good. I except this one to be better, but it's clearly not pushing for the AAA.

He'll like it, but it will violate some personal pet peeve of his.

Yes I would. However the OP is basing his entire thread on one tweet jeff made. And it made no refrance about score. Just putting his feelings into words.

That's my point but I didn't wanna sound like a dick: We're pathetic enough that we wanna have the 'numbers' element in our gaming hobby like sports fans do, so we use review scores.

People need to stop using the term "Triple A" as a way to describe the quality of a game.

#40 Posted by Lukeweizer (2770 posts) -

I really care about a score, but I definitely want to know what he thinks. Don't know what good it'll do considering I've bought my copies, but I care about Jeff's opinion. I remembered last week on the Bombcast when he mentioned that 2K allowed people to tweet their impressions of the game over the weekend, but Jeff never said anything (that I saw). Take that how you will.

#41 Posted by Hunkulese (2875 posts) -

I bet it gets 5 stars

#42 Posted by alternate (2720 posts) -

He likes it enough to - according to ILM - have a high level character on 360 as well as mid level characters on PS3 and PC. You don't bother to play it on PS3 (short of 10 minutes to see any obvious differences) if you are not having a good time with the game.

Obviously this game is a Triple H game.

Im guessing he likes the gameplay but that they haven't fixed some of the problems with the original in the sequel 4 stars

Some of my favorite games this gen are not 5 star games. 4 stars is a great score

Meh, obsessing about scores is part of the nature of being a gamer. It wouldn't feel like a gamer board without some obsession over it, even if the emphasis is misplaced. Even still, I'd rather they dropped the scores as well and let the reviews stand for themselves. If others want to debate over what "score" the review represents, let them.

#49 Edited by Ares42 (2797 posts) -

I bet he still gives it 5 stars and he's just struggling with the fact that the first one was such a breath of fresh air while this one is "just" a sequel. Even though everything is better the experience is lessened because it's an experience he's already spent so much time with.
