Borderlands has been on shelves for all of a day now, and apparently it's already getting tricky to find in some parts of the country. Or, at least, that's what this official statement from Gearbox makes it sound like...

Yes, Borderlands copies of the Xbox 360 SKU have run out in a few regions, especially the east coast. We are aware of this and are working with production and distribution at ramping up to catch up with demand. There will be more copies of Borderlands available on shelves as early as Thursday or Friday at many retailers.

The PlayStation 3 SKU issues on the west coast are mostly regional and can be addressed by reallocation. We are confident that will happen quickly.

...I quickly glanced at the store stock checkers for the retailers around here and didn't notice any huge shortage for the PS3 version here on the west side. But if there is an actual shortage (and this isn't just some sort of tactic to get people to buy the game), then this east coast 360 shortage could mean heartbreak for Ice "LORD 187X" T, who posted this on Twitter a couple of hours ago:

Ice T's goin' to the game store, to get some more ammo, you know what I'm sayin?
It's good to see that Ice T's Twitter-based gang, the FLTG, is keeping him informed about fly shit like post-apocalyptic wastelands full of money and guns. As of this writing, we are still unable to confirm if Ice has been able to procure the game, but it's worth noting that his most-recent achievements are from Batman: Arkham Asylum, and they're dated yesterday, 10/20. Keep it locked right here for updates on this breaking story.

Oh, but seriously, have any of you had any issues finding Borderlands?

I had none. Got my copy yesterday, playing it right now actually.

Co-worker in the Seattle area couldn't find it at two different Best Buy's, Target, or Walmart.  I picked it up at Best Buy earlier in the day but saw 5 others doing the same.

#4 Posted by nail1080 (1975 posts) -

This is clearly a scam to get stupid people who will panic to buy the game...

#5 Posted by Subject2Change (2966 posts) -

Ya...o wait that's because they delayed PC version for a week...

#6 Posted by animateria (3252 posts) -

I won't need to worry... getting mine through Steam later.

Might be able to pull off the four pack too.

#7 Posted by AgentofChaos (1565 posts) -

I haven't checked. Not really interested in borderlands.

#8 Posted by n00d13z (245 posts) -

That's weird. But, i had my copy shipped to me, it arived today actually. :D
So i havn't seen any shortages. Im in Mid-Ohio.
So i'unno if that would effect me all that much.

Yep. Up here in Edmonton everywhere that had that $40 sale was sold out by 2pm. Oh well, I'm still waiting for my PC version.

Seems like a marketing strategy to create more demand. Of course, now that Borderlands is Ice T endorsed, it's sure to fly off the shelves.

#11 Posted by mracoon (4948 posts) -

Well it's not even out in the UK yet so yes, I've had trouble finding the game but it's not for the same reasons.

Doesn't seem like a marketing strategy at all for me. When I went to buy it at Best Buy they were sold out, and Futureshop only had 2 copies left(one of which I bought).

#13 Posted by PJ (1143 posts) -

Its out on friday in Europe so I hope not or I will be a sad panda this weekend

#14 Posted by PLWolf (919 posts) -

All my purchases come from Amazon, so no issues here. lol

I really am liking this trend of putting Ice T in nearly every Giant Bomb story. Keep it up!!!!

#16 Posted by MetalGearSunny (6986 posts) -

I couldn't imagine any shortages in the PS3 version of any game.

#17 Posted by Flatlander (13 posts) -

I couldn't get a copy at Best Buy in San Francisco yesterday, but I managed to get one at the same location today. I'm willing to blame incompetence on the part of the staff as opposed to lack of supply though.

#18 Posted by Cult_of_Cthulhu (95 posts) -

comes out tomorrow in Australia but not expecting any issues, may go pick it up in the morning though

#19 Posted by Moussi (8 posts) -

It's sold out everywhere in canada probably. But that's due to wal-mart having it for 39.99 $. This caused places like bestbuy and futureshop to match the price therefore selling out as well. I'm glad I went in yesterday early in the morning. 39.99 $ is a steal.

#20 Posted by Lepuke (327 posts) -

I will have my copy Oct. 26 when it unlocks on Steam.

#21 Posted by Death_Burnout (3792 posts) -

This is making me shit myself...what do you reckon about UK/EU supplies!? i better be able to get my damn version...

#22 Posted by MjHealy (1817 posts) -

I have to wait 'til Friday when the PAL edition comes out. Lets hope they actually supply it.

#23 Posted by Rasta_Zergling (113 posts) -

went to a futureshop and they told me it had sold out in an hour
went to the BestBuy across the street and I was the first one to buy one all day
#24 Posted by MmmSkyscraper (312 posts) -

Opened Steam and there it was. Forza 3 has arrived and is keeping me busy til next week.

#25 Posted by TheHBK (5458 posts) -

picked up a copy at lunch yesterday, they had them stacked.  Keep us updated on Lord 187X adventures.  When you describe borderlands that way, why the fuck would he not buy it?  Post apocalyptic wasteland with money and guns?  Hellz yeah bitchez.

#26 Posted by derenf (21 posts) -

Damn. I live in Massachusetts and I was going to go out and get this in a couple hours. Guess I'll call around ahead of time to find out who has it in stock. Thanks Giantbomb for saving me gas money!

Now the rest of you will have to wait like me until friday....

#28 Posted by VWGTI (1919 posts) -

I checked the stock at Best Buy for several different zip codes this morning when I read the story and there is no shortage in the Washington D.C. area.

#29 Posted by Warchief (650 posts) -

its readily available at every EB, and Best buy near my house. no worries however because i am playing it on a PC Via Steam.

#30 Posted by Evilsbane (4519 posts) -

I walked into Best Buy, got to the 360 section saw about 20 copies, checked out went home, played till 2am now I here at work getting off in 15mins and I am 110% sure that when I get home I am gonna play some Borderlands!

And I am on the East Coast everyone seemed to have it around here.

#31 Posted by wolf_blitzer85 (5250 posts) -

Waiting for steam to tell me I can play it

#32 Posted by crusader8463 (14411 posts) -

No problems for me because the game doesn't come out for another week, plus i bought it on steam so i don't have to worry about shortages.

#33 Posted by UnsolvedParadox (1861 posts) -

Sold out everywhere I looked in Toronto due to the $40 price point, unfortunately...

#34 Posted by lilarchie232 (728 posts) -

Got my copy day one without a reserve and any issues

#35 Posted by darkjester74 (1566 posts) -

Just walked into the local GS about 2 hours ago, picked up a copy, no problem.  Didnt even pre-order.  If there is a shortage it isn't around these parts.

#36 Posted by spazmaster666 (1965 posts) -

I tried to pick it up at Fry's yesterday and they didn't have it available so I had to go to Walmart to pick it up (Best Buy wasn't open yet). At Walmart there was definitely plenty of copies available and apparently had been available since midnight.

#37 Posted by SpudzDK (79 posts) -

bought a D2D version, unlocks in europe on the 30th ushering in the season of great games for PC :)

#38 Posted by MeatSim (10739 posts) -

I need to know if Ice T got his copy of Borderlands or not!!

#39 Posted by heatguyjvs (1 posts) -

The 360 version is selling out at stores up here (upstate New York). I checked Target, they sold out yesterday, checked Walmart today, just bought their last 360 copy. The PS3 version is plentiful at both retailers though.

#40 Posted by MildMolasses (3211 posts) -

My guess is that they just didn't print up that many copies (not a ridiculously small amount, but enough to meet whatever demand they thought there would be). Anyway, I'm guessing at this because when I went to walmart (the store that caused the $40 CDN price point) they only got in 12 copies (6 each for ps3/360). I would assume that if they are going to go through the effort of trying to get people in the store specifically for this game, you'd have more copies. So I assume that they only got an amount that makes sense relative to the number of copies manufactured
#41 Posted by Dragoon14 (125 posts) -
@Moussi: do they still have the sale, isn't for the whole week
#42 Posted by Deiterbomber (64 posts) -

We had about 8 copies come in at the GameStop I work at, 4 reserved, and 4 extras, and it turns out two of the extras had some scratches on them... Brand new. Needless to say, my manager was pissed, and we sent them back to our warehouse posthaste. I fear this may be a contribution to the 'shortage' in stores.

Borderlands has sold out of many major retailers here in Minnesota. I pre-ordered mine but a few friends came over last night to watch and play after they failed to get a copy from the GameStop, Target, Walmart and Best Buy in our suburban city outside of Saint Paul. Xbox 360 not PS3 copies.

#44 Posted by Novyx (479 posts) -

If anyone else has checked, Ice T's profile now lists Borderlands with 0G, so I think we can rest easy now.

#45 Posted by Nei (23 posts) -

Sigh, still waiting for my copy from NewEgg... they have not shipped it yet. :(

#46 Posted by Swaboo (450 posts) -

In New-Brunswick Canada it is sold out everywhere i checked. There was a line at the closest Futureshop when it opened on the 20th to buy it at 40$, selling out both ps3 and xbox versions. It wasn't available to order on amazon.ca either but now it is and i just ordered it.
#47 Posted by Jayzilla (2554 posts) -

I couldn't find a copy because I dropped my $60 on the ground for it when the attendant said they would drop my copy of Borderlands at the same time....and, well...the attendant picked up my money and then disappeared!

European? Then we sit in the same lonely boat my friend.

Glad to see a good amount of people ponying-up for Borderlands. Came close to buying a retail copy, but decided to check it out through Gamefly first before buying it through them. (Why do I feel so guilty when I buy used games? The industry needs to do something about that. I'd much rather be giving that money to the developer. Microsoft should start some new trade-in program where they share their profits with the original developers, for a happy medium.)

Picked up a copy earlier today from Best Buy, and they only had one 360 copy and two PS3 copies left on the shelves. I guess that might constitute a shortage, or it might just mean that they aren't willing to give up any of the insane amount of shelf space that they give EA Sports titles...seriously do they need to keep that many copies of Fight Night and Madden in stock?
