A little repetitive but still addictive fun.
I'll admit, when I first bought Borderlands I was underwhelmed. I felt that the game was repetitive and had little depth to it. That was until I realized that I played the game for 8 hours straight as soon as I popped it in my 360, and had my first "OMG THIS THING IS AWESOME" reaction when I found a new gun.
Gameplay
Borderlands can easilly be summed up as "Diablo with guns" sure it's a grindfest, but you can't help but have a unique feeling of accomplishment when you take down a boss three times your size, or when you buy that gun that will melt a guy with green acid. Also with 87,000,000,000,000 different weapons that each feel unique, there won't be a shortage of awesome loot for you to find.
Graphics
Though the game doesn't go for a realistic look like Uncharted 2 or Crysis, it still stands out with an unusual but still great art style. The entire game looks like an over the top western comic book and I have to say that it definitely sets themselves apart from the rest of the games that came out this holiday season. But some textures do tend to look blurry, and some guns dont exactly differ much from others (Of course with so many guns some are bound to look alike).
Sound
The game sounds great, guns sound differently from each other and the enemies all seem unique with their wild sreaming, screaching, and roaring. The music is definitely appropriate for the gameplay, and always seem to kick in at the right time. Not to mention that the games themesong "Aint no rest for the wicked" by Cage the Elephant is extremely good and reflects the games wacky zany feel.
Story
Borderlands kind of falls flat on the story, most of the dialogue is seen in boring "Wow style" quest boxes. Though in all honesty the story doesn't even really matter for a game with this type of gameplay. The story is simply there to give you a reason to shoot stuff, and that's exactly what it does.
Multiplayer
The Multiplayer and Singleplayer in this game are one in the same. The game can either be enjoyed alone, or with three other friends. Luckily the interface is smooth and friends can seamlessly jump into your game for Coop fun and vice versa. The game also raises and lowers the difficulty depending on how many players are in your game. Unfortunately the game has no trading system and players can't loan each other money.
Overall
Overall Borderlands is a fun and addictive game that will suck up hours of you life. You can enjoy it alone or even with friends if you have any. It's style and atmospher is also unique and a fresh departure from the gritty realism that you see in most games today. Unfortunately since the game is a grindfest it can get a little repetitive also the story is practically non-existant, but most of you guys honestly wont care about that when you're blowing up guys with a shot gun that fires rockets...ROCKETS!!
