Animal Companions

Bear

A giant omnivorous mammal that can be white, brown, or black. Despite their ferociousness, they are also associated with being soft and cuddly as in teddy bears.

Bird

Winged, flying creatures that often perch on branches, and defecate on unfortunate victims below.

Button Mashing

Button Mashing is a concept used to describe any game or gameplay wherein skill is an aside to how fast a player can hit the buttons on the controller.

Hand-drawn or computer-generated animation.

Collectibles

Collectibles are items such as coins, rings, gems, packages ect. that can be gathered, usually for some kind of reward. Often (almost too often) the source of earning achievements on the Xbox 360

Combat-based Platformer

A combat-based platformer is a style of platforming with more emphasis placed on destroying enemies than exploration or collecting items like coins, jiggies, etc. Good examples of combat-based platformers are Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter.

Concept where everything you need isn't always spelled out for you on the map. Sometimes even the map is not there till you go explore it.

Hack and Slash

RPG games that focus more on the action rather than telling a deep story. This term can also refer to action games which focus on hack and slash gameplay.

Horse

Equestrians that go 'neigh' and tend to eat hay. Some are the stars of motion pictures.

Horse Riding

Horse riding is mostly used in games to get around from one place to another quicker than you could on foot. They can also sometimes be used in combat or racing.

Ice Stage

A common type of stage featured in many games. Slippery ice, avalanches, and freezing water are some of the unpleasantries to be had when visiting these cold arctic regions.

Kid Friendly

Games made for a younger audience, usually between 3-9.

Magic

The concept of affecting the universe through supernatural methods, breaking the physical laws. Can take form as an act performed by a person (magician,conjurer, wizard, ...) as a property of an item (artifact, wand, focus, ...) or as latent characteristic of a world.

Magic Meter

The meter which is used to tell how much power you have left to use magic abilities.

Mounted Combat

Combat based on organic (or similarly functioning) mounts. This can include melee or ranged attacks from horseback.

Mounts

Where players can ride an animal or machine for movement speed advantage.

Native American

A member of any of a number of tribes or ethnic groups, indigenous to regions of North America which are now part of the United States. Many of these groups continue to exist as intact legal and political entities.

Puzzles

These games test not only your reaction speed, but also your problem-solving skills. Often, puzzles will need to be solved before the player can progress to the next portion of the level or game.

Talking Animals

Talking animals are exactly that: otherwise ordinary animals that, for whatever reason, possess the abillity of speech.

Transformations

A transformation is a different stage or form for something. Usually an upgrade.
