Hey folks, just wanted to say that Steam is putting Brink in free play for the whole weekend, then you can purchase the COMPLETE pack for as little as 6 euros! (7 dollars in US? dunno)

Yea, I know, the game is not perfect, there are not many maps and so on, but I bought it a while ago for 31 euros (complete pack) and I had some great moments, especially when there are 2 good teams facing each other. Now the game is dying and it's really a pity, in my opinion. Give it a try for free and have fun! You can find me as LeutenantThorlief. See you in Brink!

They did this a few months ago. I played for like an hour and stopped. It's not a very good game, unfortunately.

Again? I remember them doing the same thing not too long ago.

But yeah, I'm not going to play any more Brink. : (

What do you mean the game is dying? Damn, it had so much potential, but the technical issues might be too much (Unless they've fixed those since last free weekend). Other than that, I love the customization and style.

@AhmadMetallic: Pretty much this. Too bad as I was hoping it'd turn out good a while back. No such luck.

Brink if pretty fun if you can find a group of friends to play with.

I liked what they tried to do with the game but it seems like they gave up before they were able to realize Brink's full potential.

I bought this when it came out because it had so much potential. I was really excited for it. I played it twice, then returned it. It has the potential to be a GREAT game, but it felt too hodge-podge for it to be fun over the long term. The parkour style movement was well executed, especially since this is an FPS game. Technically, the game played and felt great, but after unlocking just about everything in one sitting, the novelty wore off.

It's sad that the game was good but the lag was so fucking terrible.

    Aaaaaaand... we have a winner.

I was actually considering buying this. Thanks for making me think straight.

Edit: Something's up with the favorite forums. I'm pretty sure I never faved Brink's or Off-Topic.

@valrog: The game is indeed dying, unfortunately. I had a break from Brink a while ago (not because I was bored, but just because I bought a SHITLOAD of other games through Steam sales) and I came back a couple of days ago. Well, just to let you know, servers have dropped from ~250 to 18 (eighteen), with only one being completely active. It quite saddened me because as I said, I really enjoyed the game, despite the flaws. When the free weekend came up I've been very happy because I saw a hope for this game. And yes, some of the problems have been fixed (not all of them unfortunately). So I came advertising the fact here, and I hope more people come play it and let Splash Damage develop better content :)

@MoleyUK: Touchè man, you made me lol :)

@JoeyRavn: NOOOOOOOOOOO PLEEEEEZE, COME HAVE FUN! :D

@Ravenlight: Yea, pretty much what you said. I just hope they don't abandon it completely :)

@jakob187: PC version is not that bad in terms of lag, actually :)

    @MB: Oh. My. God. :D

I bought it for $10 a long time ago and it was barely worth that.

I was really excited for this game during the run up to its release. The Dev's were saying all the right things, I loved the art style, character customisation, the focus on team play and objectives. And to be fair when the teams were balanced I had alot of fun. It had a terrible launch though as far as I remember and the A.I could be infuriating. All lot of the maps came down to controlling choke points though and were quite narrow. Was refreshing to see a FPS that wasn't brown and modern warfare. Hope Bethesda gives them a shot at a sequel.

Bought the whole shebang for £4.75, got at least my money's worth from it, over the few hours I've put into it this weekend.

Oh hey Brink, I remember when I almost pre-ordered it. Played it both this and the last free weekend, and it was just not that good.

It has two big selling points with your team FPS action: the parkour and the storyline. Too bad the parkour is nothing more than a gimmick because you have to have to stick close to the objective most of the time and even then you're stuck in chokepoints or corridoors. The story is interesting, but it is relegated to extra material outside of the gameplay and nothing you do affects it or makes you care about the players involved. You hear about Captain Mokoena and Brother Chen but neither of them seem to do anything. Even character selection is worthless because it gives you the option to be all four classes but only give you enough points to spec for 1 and a half of them. On top of that, the faction doesn't even matter online because you can be switched to the other team without warning.

That leaves the shooting part, except practically all guns have no punch. Headshots don't actually kill anything due to the magical power of TEAMWORK overcoming everything and grenades have been so dumbed down you might as well be throwing a firecracker at the enemy.

Now if this game were to become free-to-play with microtransactions for silly hats, or if they released some sort of modding kit, it might be worthwhile. Unfortunately it's too late. Watch the gen-pop of the servers go back down to maybe 10 people in a week.
