Joystiq's Brink review under scrutiny
" Maybe he used another gamertag? Then again after that whole Nier thing, I stopped reading their reviews "What thing?
I don't understand why this is a big deal. If a game is that shitty, you shouldn't have to play through the whole thing to know that the rest of it's gonna be just as shitty.

Also, in the video it clearly said "HEY YOU, GO TO THIS SPOT TO CATCH THIS SPECIFIC FISH" and he was sitting across the map like "HER DER HOW CATCH FISH".

Seems a little unfair to be jumping to conclusions like that, reviewers tend to have multiple gamertags for this sort of thing and debug/early builds that reviewers would have been sent out wouldn't have had achievements.
It's been getting mostly decent reviews, but fan reception has been quite negative. I don't see what the problem is if this guy decided quite quickly he doesn't like the game.
" Seems a little unfair to be jumping to conclusions like that, reviewers tend to have multiple gamertags for this sort of thing. It's the internet. They give it a low score and suddenly the reviewer is incompetent. They give it a high score and suddenly they're a fanboy. It's a lose-lose situation. Some people will literally never be satisfied.Even if that's not the case, it's a multiplayer based FPS. Putting in a good few hours in more than enough to get a good feel for the game. It's not like he played half an RPG and stopped before some massive revelation. It's been getting mostly decent reviews, but fan reception has been quite negative. Not that I care about Gamerscore, but I took note of the fact that the reviewer's score is smaller than mine and it made me wonder how many other games he doesn't finish playing.
" @KaosAngel said:Well G4 had just as low of a score." 1UP had a lower score, why isn't anyone else on their ass? "6/10 is higher than 2/5. "
He probably played the majority of the game on a debug 360. A lot of really early review copies won't run on a retail 360 & thus he won't get achievements on his account for it. His time with the retail version would have just been to confirm that there aren't any differences between the version he played and the final retail version. People need to stop jumping to conclusions before he's had a chance to respond.
Here is Griffin responding. http://twitter.com/#!/griffinmcelroy
Can this guy even be taken seriously as a "journalist", he sounds more like a blogger and if this is the case then users on GB who have nice blogs like Sweep, VideoGameKing, and that Jeff guy who acts like he runs the place, should be getting review copies as they can write better and take gaming seriously." EDIT: That dude is QQing like a bitch.

Games running on a debug console don't give out Gamerscore. Also, I would be surprised if he had a private or office account that doesn't get completely barraged with messages and friend requests at all hours.

This is the dumbest fucking thing to whine about. He's probably got like 3 seperate gamertags (Y'know, like GiantBomb has about 50?) and Brink clearly isn't a good game anyway, look at the Quick Look.
And the guys at Giantbomb are more bloggers than journalists. "Games journalism" is like 90% bloggers!
And Metacritic sucks dicks, I thought we all worked this out years ago.

" I think the McElroy brothers are pretty damn good at what they do, so I doubt that Griffin would half-ass a review. I really don't think Achievements are a good indicator of the amount of time someone has played a game. "I totally agree, I love the McElroy brothers and whilst I haven't read the review itself. I don't agree with the score. I've played over 3 hours of the game, and i'm very happy with it. For me on Joystiqs scale its a 4/5.
Griffin shouldn't even be responding to this crap. It is such a waste of time for everyone involved. I think I have one good picture that sums up everything he needs to say to the internet:
Also, MBMBaM is hilarious. And I respectfully disagree with Griffin's review.
Really? Do we need to go internet detective on a guy that has not earned this kind of scrutiny and our only evidence is fucking achievements?
Oh, we're back to trying to discredit reviewers based on achievements? How very November 2007 of you.

"Couldn't sum it up better myself. So what if Joystiq gave it a 2/5, it's the guys opinion and honestly having played it with a friend a bit myself I'm not terribly impressed either.Edit: Even Jeff thinks it's ridiculous."Oh, we're back to trying to discredit reviewers based on achievements? After the nth "literally" I had to turn the video off or I might have thrown my laptop through the window.
On topic though, this is ridiculous. Brink doesn't seem that great, and the game has been making questionable appearances for a long time now; I don't see why this is so shocking.
