So yeah - tried the game a bit myself and had no idea just how close to Mirror's Edge the parkour system was until I saw this video. Guess I need to play as the light body type more often.

Anyone actually experienced someone playing like this under fire? Is it actually effective? Because, seeing how quickly this guy traverses some of the maps, this seems like it could be a huge advantage in capturing command posts and covering distances.

EDIT: For some reason the guy in the video disabled the arm animations for jumping. Doesn't seem to affect how quickly he can mount objects but a little weird nonetheless. Wish he'd kept it normal as it looks a little weird without them.

The parts where he's using the parkour to his advantage do look good. But the parts where he's jumping over smaller object like chairs and stuff looks pretty bad, but I think it's because there are so many smaller objects stringed together. The climbing and wallrunning look good though. I wish there was an ACTUAL FPS that did this. My dream game is the FPS and loot  of Borderlands mixed with the RPG-ness of Mass Effect 1 mixed with the environmental movement of Mirrors Edge or this. Before Brink was released I had thought it was more of a single player RPG with co-op for some reason.

Looks lame and utterly pointless in the context of the game.

Mirror's Edge had a fidelity to the movement that I haven't seen in any other game.

This is more like Janky's Edge.

It's no Mirror's Edge, but it's pretty neat. Getting to know the maps definitely helps. There were numerous times where I escaped death by parkour. And there are many un-discovered locations by people that you can use to your advantage.

Yeah, it's totally janky edge, something that could of been easily programmed into a ps2 game because it's so janky. It sort of look a bit like a ps2 game too, very crude. Mirrors edge moves way better, you can see the hand grabbing the ledge and limbs doing stuff. This game is like floating around.

I suppose it looks doable if you take the time to adapt to it, but it doesn't look intuitive or like something I'd want to master at all. I couldn't see the majority of those moves being pulled off when actually fighting against people. It's a shame as I was looking forward to Brink.

What's wrong with Halo's Forge mode, and how does it look like that at all?
Nothing's wrong with forge mode, the movement just looks super floaty. Mirror's Edge was pretty good about making you feel like you were in a person's body. From that video it feels like you're watching  a camera fly around.

It doesn't add to the gameplay at all. It's a glamorized jump button.

I can see how it would make the game more interesting if the players on both teams knew how to use the SMART system effectively for shortcuts and tactics. Honestly it was probably a mistake to only allow the light body class to be any good with the system.

If you could see your arms and legs like in Mirrors Edge it would look at least half way decent.

Also how would parkour be useful in team-based multi-player shooter? Like in Uncharted 2 on-line climbing walls just opens you to getting shot in the back so easily.

The only reason that looks janky is because he turned off the models, so you don't see his hands grabbing stuff, or vaulting or whatever.
