However when it comes to children Bruce shows his other side. He has a soft spot when it comes to children. He often will go out of his way to help out, train, of just encourage them. This is probably because his own childhood was so rough.

Five years prior to The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Bruce Irvin was once a renowned world champion. People speculated that his ferocity stemmed from the anger he felt when his parents were killed when Bruce was at a young age. Bruce was left on the streets to survive on his own, and taught himself how to fight in order to earn money competing in pit fights.

As a kickboxer, Bruce competed in a Muay Thai tournament in Thailand, but his performance destroyed his chances in returning to mainstream kickboxing. The Muay Thai gambling organization put a price on Bruce's life. While on his flight home, a contract killer attempted to take Bruce's life, but an investigator of Hong Kong's International Police Force, thwarted the killer's efforts. A fight would ensure that resulted in the plane went down. He was rescued by Kazuya Mishima's forces, and as a result became Kazuya Mishima's bodyguard.

In Bruce's Tekken 2 ending cinematic, we see a child looking through Bruce's window, watching him training with a punching bag. Bruce attacks the bag, and breaks its chains, as he kicked it at the window. The child falls down, and he see's Bruce staring out the window with an encouraging thumbs up.

Tekken 5

21 years ago, Kazuya was defeated by his father and thrown into a volcano by his father Heihachi. Bruce decided to leave the Mishima Zaibatsu's group of mercenaries and traveled the globe working as a mercenary for various organizations. Bruce learned that Kazuya, whom Bruce thought to be long dead, had competed in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, and also learned that the Mishima Zaibatsu, without Heihachi (who had recently been "killed" in the Hon-Maru explosion), was scheduled to hold The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. Bruce sensed something sinister about the tournament, but at the same time felt a rush of excitement, as he had grown bored in recent times and it looks as though this tournament would provide entertainment.

In Bruce's Tekken 5 ending cinematic, a young boy is practicing on a punching bag, before three older men come and beat him up, cut the punching bag and steal his gloves. Bruce quickly appears and decimates the three men before giving the young boy his gloves back. He encourages him to keep practicing.

Tekken 6

After become reacquainted with Kazuya at The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Bruce decides to assist Kazuya with his scheme to takeover G Corporation. They succeeded, and Kazuya soon controlled the corporation behind closed doors. G Corporation waged a war on the Mishima Zaibatsu, and Bruce, as Kazuya's Captain, led Kazuya's private corps into battle, fighting the Mishima Zaibatsu around the world.  After the announcement of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6, Bruce enters, hoping to capture Jin Kazama.
