Bruce Lee was a movie star who specialized in Martial Arts films. He is responsible for the creation of Jeet Kune Do and the popularization of martial arts in the West.

Brief Biography

Bruce Lee was born on November 27, 1940 in San Francisco, California. His father was a part of the Cantonese Opera Company in America, so three months into life, Bruce makes an appearance in the movie "Golden Gate Girl", playing a female baby while being held by his father. A year later, Lee and his family moved back to their home town, the Kowloon district of Hong Kong.  At the age of six, Lee appears in his first of 20 movies called  "The Beginning of a Boy". In the near future, he would become nearsighted and wear glasses, which would later be replaced by contacts. At age 12, Lee starts to attend a Catholic Boys school. A year later, he would change schools and would get beaten by other kids. In response, Lee decides to train under Yip Man in learning the ways of Wing Chun Kung Fu. On a related note, he also took up Cha-Cha dancing.

In 1958, at 18, Bruce Lee won a boxing championship and a Cha-Cha dancing championship, while at the same time starring in a leading role in a movie called "The Orphan". And you thought you were awesome.
 
By 19, Lee was getting into trouble fighting other kids on the streets of Hong Kong. His parents then sent him to his birthplace in America, San Francisco. Lee would later move to Seattle and begin teaching his martial arts. At the age of 21, Lee is attending the University of Washington, majoring in Philosophy. After opening his first Kung Fu institute, in 1964, Lee moved to Oakland to open up his second institute, but then go back to Seattle to marry his girlfriend, Linda. That same year, Lee would demonstrate the infamous One Inch Punch. In 1965, the spark for the creation of Jeet Kune Do by Lee is created; that same year, Brandon Lee, who would later star in The Crow, is born. Four years later, Shannon Lee is born. In '71, Bruce begins working on his first non-child actor movie, The Big Boss. After a couple more years of filming, Bruce Lee dies a few days before the release of the movie that would make him famous, Enter the Dragon. His death was apparently due to swelling of the brain, caused by medicine prescribed to him to relieve some headaches. During his time in America, he met many famous people from Kareem Abdul Jabbar to Chuck Norris.

Details on Death

On July 20, 1973, Lee was supposed to have dinner with George Lazenby. Beforehand, Lee complained of a headache and decided to lie down to rest before going to dinner. He took some medicine given to him by a friend which was supposed to act as aspirin and muscle relaxant. Later, Bruce Lee was unable to be woken up. He was rushed to the hospital but nothing could be done to revive him. There is much controversy around to Lee's death, as to what exactly killed him. He reportedly died from a hypersensitivity to the muscle relaxant in Equagesic, which is a common ingredient in painkillers. However, some people believe that it was the traces of cannabis found during the autopsy that caused his death, despite the fact that cannabis is incapable of harming human beings by itself.

To this day, Bruce Lee is revered as the greatest martial artist of recent memory, or possibly of all time. He will be forever remembered for everything he had accomplished for the martial arts in such a small amount of time.
