Not quite the Tim Schafer Experience.
Tim Schafer is a developer where you just can't help but to root for, he makes some of the most funniest and clever characters and the same could be said about the writing. So how does he follow up what I thought was an incredible platformer that was Psyconauts? Brutal Legend.
While Brutal legend isn't nearly as good as it's hyped up to be, one thing is still the same, the fantastic characters and even funnier dialogue. The rest is just filler, it seems. It starts off as a action game, but soon switches into a real-time strategy game.Yeah. RTS games haven't translated well into consoles, in the short life of gaming, and nothing is different here.
The heavy Metal influence of the game is everywhere and you can tell it was very inspirational from the world your exploring, to the story and characters, but the story doesn't seem to be as great, it's more of a reason to build up an army and go trash some other guys army. There are main quests to follow, which mean side quests, after about 6 side mission or so you'll have seen all their is to know about them and if your strapped for cash well their going to seem like a chore.
It won't take long to finish the rather short story mode, sadly, but there is a multi-payer. It take the same formula as the RTS element you see in the story mode and adds 4 players to it. If you haven't gotten bored of the RTS element, or just didn't like it in the sinlge player, the multi-player will will not change your mind, yes it's fun to play with other people, but there's just not lasting appeal to it.
Brutal Legend is a game all about experiencing the world and characters and the influence of metal. Beyond that, the game is just filler, or doesn't really get beyond the half-way point of good. By all means, it's a justifiable rent, but don't buy it thinking the multi-player is going to keep you coming back. It's the little game you hope does well for Tim Schafer's sake.
